Ecostar 3400vsp drive error - stall

Last night after replacing our dying T15 sale cell with a 940, pump did not start. I thought it could be because the water all drained from that section of plumbing but the basket in the pump was full and even after trying to dump buckets of water into the basket to flood the inside of the pump error won't go away.

Seeing all the posts regarding this error and it being tied to motor failures on ecostar I am looking into an upgrade rather than fix.

Assuming my assumptions above are valid : is Tristar the way to go as a replacement VSP?
(Or maybe a suggestion on getting my started?)

Cheers

If you go with the V-Green, it must be the 2.7.

I quickly checked but I don't think vgreen is available in Canada....
Order and ship it to Ogdensburg NY. Drive down and pick it up.

Correct.

Better? No. But cheaper. Up to you.
Your pump will still be a TriStar, just powered by a slightly different motor. If you were to buy a new one of the same horsepower rating as your existing, it would be the identical pump. TriStar pumps came out to supersede the abysmal NorthStar. When Hayward first added a variable speed motors they called them EcoStar. Same "wet end," larger impeller. Newer models with various numbers are still the same TriStar (EcoStar, like mine) pump with different horsepower motors/drive/impeller.

Hi again guys,
Reached out to Hayward and they did offer some discount on their Tristar model if I order from them. So I will now be doing a bit of price check in town as well and weigh against cost vs. quick availability and pull the trigger.

In the meantime though:
First wanted to make sure those two product lines are equivalent : The two 2.7 HP models and the two 1.85 HP models

Second : considering I will never really be running this at full speed, I wonder if I should get the 1.85HP model. My pool is really simple. one skimmer line and 4 returns. Noticed recently that my piping is 1.5". So I cannot really push too much GPM through the system anyways at "efficient" rates. So even though this is not the "equivalent" replacement maybe it is the correct model for my setup.

To push the same amount of water flow, the lower hp versions will use more electricity over the higher hp versions. The lower hp versions will also need to run at higher rpm, and thus be noisier.

So keep those factors in mind.

Totally agree.

Considering this data : TriStar VS | Pumps | In Ground Pool Pumps - Hayward Canada Pool Products where at the 10ft single data point for 50GPM, it would be 1375 RPM vs 1750 RPM.

I don't have enough data to do the math, but I see your point. Price difference is around 400 CAD which is a 30% premium for the 2.7HP.... Hmmm....
