SWG was spot on the 1st week - 3.5 PPM. Starting to get on the high side now - 5+ PPM.
I just adjust the Ichlor 30 from 60% to 50%. The pump is running 12 hrs. A day at 2800 rpm.
Just wondering if everyone just keeps adjusting the output or at some point reduce the time that the SWG runs.
PB instructed to set the SWG on the same time schedule as the pump.

Welcome to TFP.

You should expect to tweak your SWG % output around every 4 to 6 weeks as the seasons change. Your pool FC demand changes with the change in sun angle and weather.

The SWG is not set it and forget it.

Adjusting the % or changing the pump runtime accomplishes the same thing. You can adjust your SWG FC output either way.

In your 12,500 gallon pool your iChlor30 running for 60% for 12 hours generates 2.9 ppm of FC daily.

Reducing it to 50% gives you 2.4 ppm of FC daily.

Jon,

Without knowing your CYA, there is no way we can tell if your FC is where it needs to be or not.

See the saltwater section of this chart. FC/CYA Levels

There is no downside to running your FC on the high side. I never worry about my FC being too high (within reason) but I never, ever want my FC to get too low. If you try to keep your FC between your minimum and your target, you will drive yourself crazy with constant adjustments. I try to maintain my target FC or higher. It is a much simpler approach and way less work.

Thanks,

Jim R.

I use a Taylor DPD for testing.
CYA is fine - I will test it this evening after a sunny day and thunderstorms! I was just curious about the adjustments.
Also, it is a new pool -just went on the SWG Thursday a week ago.
The pool was filled the 1st time June 30

CYA is 50

Which exact Taylor test kit are you using?
Post a full set of current test results.
Use PoolMath and share the logs here, or post as follows:

FC
CC
pH
TA
CH
CYA
Salt
Water temp

Fill out your signature with pool, pool equipment (including manufacturers and model numbers) and test kit info.
This assists us in providing help more specific to your pool and equipment without needing to ask you for the info every time.

This is the second time I have been requested to fill out the signature with the pool info - I did that - the info is there isn’t it?

Jon,

With a CYA of 50, an FC of 5 is not at all what I would consider "high". You could go up to 20 ppm of FC and still be safe.

If you have a Screen room, then a CYA of 50 is ok. If you don't have a Screen room, then I'd bump it up to 60 or 70.

I suggest that you try to keep your FC at about 5 ppm or slightly higher. This will keep you algae free and you will never have to add another bag of "pool store" shock again.

Like I said above... quit worrying about the FC being too high and only concentrate on keeping your FC at or above your target. This will make your life as SWCG owner so much easier.

Thanks,

Jim R.

It does not. I believe you filled out the profile section that shows on the left side below your name and avatar. The signature is shown below the body section of your post. I added a link to the signature section in my post above for you to click on to make it easier to find.

So it is under “about you” at the bottom of the profile area after the section that you fill out all the information about the pool - I could just list the same information in that box - correct!

Ok - I think I got it with your assistance!!🎊🎊🎊🎉🎉🎉
Let me know if I’m good to go with the signature thing and we can continue getting me straight with pool!

Thanks,
Jon

Wouldn’t that depend on run time and water flow?

Water flow has no effect on SWG output as long as it is sufficient to turn on the flow switch.

Got it - but I was referring to you 2.9 ppm and 2.4 ppm - the hat would have to be at a specific pump run time correct?

That was based on you saying you run your pump 12 hours per day.

Got it thanks!
What are your thought on flow meters?
Thank again,
Jon
Flow meters are a gadget for digital natives obsessed with knowing numbers.

Nothing you do with your pool equipment needs a precise flow number. Analog methods can be used to set your flow.
