Skimmer questions

well here is one reason the flow drops to zero when the skimmer is plugged. this is after i vacuumed out what is the main drain :LOL:

The weir looks correct.
The main drain line may have had a leak and was plugged in the pool to stop it. Might be best to leave it alone or you could end up with a leak. You can live without it, especially if you have a cleaner of some sort. You may want to put some epoxy putty on the area you removed to be sure a leak wasn't created. Hydraulic cement, available at Home Depot in a small box may be better. You won't be able to clear that drain without risking a broken pipe and a large problem.

Thanks! This was pretty much what I was thinking. I don't want to make a problem that I don't currently have. I didn't remove any of the material with any force. There was just a loose piece of material in the drain that I collected for examination. If I had to guess by the shape of it at one point it was on the bottom side of the grill that I took off to examine the drain.
