1st Time New Pool Owner ( Long time hot tub owner ) …GREEEEN 🤮

Most pools lose 2-4 ppm a day due to UV and bathers. Folks in the hot climates might lose a bit more, those in the *cough* Artic Circle maybe a little less.

It is recommended not to close until after the water is around 60 degrees & raise to slam level, then let it fall about 1/2 way to target fc for your cya if u are adding polyquat 60.
If you don’t use polyquat you can just raise to slam level & close (this is what i do)
Also, opening should occur before water temp rises above lower 60’s.
I do this & open to plenty of fc every year.
In my neck of the woods I close around Halloween 🎃 & open in early April.
What is your current cya level?

What is your current cya level?
Current is between 50
And 60 because it was around 60 a week ago and we've done some
Vacuum to waste , some backwashes etc so we got rid of more water in small amounts etc .
I didn't really explain well enuff the question. I meant to ask , if we're in slam
Mode and when everyone gives us the go ahead to swim , I was trying to calculate how many days from stopping slam ( high ppm) will it take to be be safe to swim . 🏊🏼. Water sure doesn't smell chlorine at all 👃🏽 🌸

It is safe to swim between minimum & slam level for your cya so long as u can see the bottom of the deep end for safety.
Your cya counts as 60 if it’s anywhere above 50
Slam level is 24ppm
After u meet all 3 end of slam criteria
You would then maintain Target 🎯 level fc for your cya Which is 7-9ppm
Never allowing your fc level to drop below a minimum of 5ppm
ALWAYS follow the FC/CYA Levels

Dead algae only means your still killing off algae otherwise how would you have dead algae but if you vac it up and eliminate it rather then displace it and having it settle on the pool bottom then you can move in the forward direction to take you towards OCLT. You can still swim but keep the pool slam level at its peak.

I want to thank everyone for their informative answers this evening . Really made us feel blessed , and how far you all have gotten us dealing with that green swamp . Question …If we were to …. Maybe stick a toe in 😇, are we balancing the PH , alkalinity and calcium Soon ? Or just use it as is with the high SLAM level ?

You need to get past the OCLT before you can even consider other chemistry. PH should have been brought down to 7.2 prior to starting slam but during a slam any PH testing with a FC level above 10 renders it inaccurate.
Thanks for the answers . Just to catch you up , this was our readings just before SLAM ,

Those are all fine- that’s why you start slam w/ ph of 7.2 - so there’s room for it to rise during the process since u can’t accurately test it.
No worries- jump in.

Okay so no pushing in during the lighting event!
I looked it up and Canada has 2 or 3 lighting deaths per year compared to 1745 Vehicle deaths in 2020. One doesn't *need* to be outside during lightning the way they need to drive to the store/work, but still. It's not nearly as scary as our Mothers all told us.

Here is the morning pool examination 🧐
