Those numbers are outstanding. Can we assume the water is crystal clear? Some may say take the CYA up to 70, but if your FC is holding well for now you can wait.

Your numbers are good but why the high FC and how do you have 0 for CH. As per the CYA/ratio 4 is the FC target so id let that slide some.

I felt a bit of slime on the walls so I tossed in a gallon of liquid chlorine and some shock.

I agree with wireform on the FC. 16 is probably creeping up on SLAM territory. I don't have a salt generator, so I always run my chlorine a little "hot" (about 1.5 ppm above suggested high number) for when life happens, and the pool moves a little down the priority list for a day or two. (NOTE: We don't talk about that in front of the pool. )

Also, my CH is quite low at 125; I've personally never seen it lower than 100 in any pool. But that doesn't mean it can't happen, I guess. Great job on getting your pool dialed in thus far, though!

And a SPECIAL shout out for coming to TFP for advice before you went to the pool store and did something silly and expensive and exasperating!

If those walls still feel slimy, brush them. Algae builds up a protective coating that can help it resist chlorine even if your levels are high enough to otherwise kill it. Brushing will damage that layer and allow the chlorine to do its job.

The water is clear. I can feel just a bit of slime on the walls. Too cold to get in to check the floor though.

The Overnight Chlorine Loss Test will tell the tale & let u know if u need to do the SLAM Process.
I would do this BEFORE raising cya.

As Mdragger88 said better to know your good with an OCLT before raising the CYA because to slam with more CYA is going to go through more chlorine to slam for the same outcome.

I did the test. Fc was 20 last night and tested this morning and it’s 20.5.

Remember that cal hypo not only adds fc but also calcium- the fc gets used up but the calcium remains.
Your PoolMath logs aren’t linked so we can’t see where you stand with your ch.
Low ch isn’t really an issue with vinyl pools but high ch is a problem for all pools.

Yesterday CH was at 0. I’m going to do all tests again in a bit to see if that changed.

Look in your PoolMath settings and you should see a toggle button that allows you to link Poolmath testing to TFP.

No need to retest ch.
Ch doesn’t change that rapidly unless u are regularly adding calcium containg products/water. Monthly testing is fine.
The one dose would have raised your ch by approx. 5.7 - not a big deal one time.

The premise of tfp is to understand how each chem you add effects your water so u can make informed decisions & only add what your testing calls for. No more, no less.
You can & should use poolmath effects of adding Before dosing w/ things to get an understanding of how they will effect other parameters.
