Brand new pool owner- yellow or mustard?

FC drops [fast] during the first part of the SLAM as it attacks organics. UV also burns FC faster at SLAM level. Stay on top of SLAM FC levels. Brush the pool often. Although I doubt you have mustard algae, check out some tips in the article about searching for hidden algae.

Thanks, for sharing that, you must have read my mind. I'm pretty sure that I do have it, because it poofs when I brush. I've brushed the whole pool twice today. Blisters are forming, even after wearing gloves. :( Here's where we are at so far today:

8:00am - FC: 6.5 + 10cups of CL
9:38am - FC: 9 + 5c of CL
11:33am - FC: 9 + 5c
2:25pm - FC: 7.5 + 7c
3:30pm - FC: 8.5 + 6c

Oh Crud! I haven't been shocking high enough for Yellow Mustard! I need to be at 18 for 30 CYA. No wonder it wasn't going away! Shoot!

You're good. Keep FC at level 12 PPM.

Read the instructions carefully for mustard algae. You must pass all three criteria for a regular SLAM prior to raising FC to mustard algae level for a period of 24 hours.

Oh. Oops, I immediately went out and put in 10 more cups. So I should keep it at 12? Ok.

At 8:30p tested FC and was at 10, so added 1 more cup. Last addition of the night. Thanks for all your help!

Delighted at the color change this morning. Monitored all day, kept adding CL, brushed twice, manually vacuumed and let the navigator run when I wasn’t out there all day and night. Filter rose to 15. May clean the filter tomorrow or following day. Excited to see another color change tomorrow hopefully. It’s a light green and very cloudy.

Keep up the vigilance. I'm not sure if I mentioned it, but after you clean the filter, take note of the pressure. Clean or backwash the filter after you see a 25% increase over that clean baseline pressure.
