Hi to all the Community

Well seems that the Electrical Bill started to kill me as i has got too expensive over here in PR (.50 cents per KW) and they don't guarantee that it will stay there.

At first i was exceptical to think it was the pump and was running it for 6 hours (3 at AM and 3 at PM) but i decided to get the culprit and got a Multimeter to measure the whole house. Well found that the pump is consuming 11 AMP at startup and 9 AMP running time so i reduced the Pump usage to 3 hours daily.

So have been reading in order to upgrade to a VS Pump and will like your expertise recommendation in which route or brand and model i should stick with as i have seen Pentair, Hayward, Star-rite, etc.?

Really appreciate your feedback to help me out. Thanks in advance.

Hi... A local Pool Store is selling me a 1HP Waterway 2 speed pump with the Proclean Filter. Trying to get the exact model to get the specs but i am a little concerned and here comes your advise again.

He stated that i can't use the same Cartridge Filter rated for 100 gal. with the new pump so i will have to but the whole combo with a new filter and that a full VS pump will be too much for my pool.

Please help me out to confirm that he is really not trying to sell only. Posts of pics for reference on what he is selling me and my actual setup that only have 1 year or should i go another route.

Thanks once again.

The advantage of a VSP is that you can adjust the flow to meet the requirements of your system. You have not indicated which filter you have at present.

Thanks... It is in the pic but it is a Waterway Cartridge Filter rated 100gpm. I also went to another pool store and they are recommending me the Hayward VS 500 with the filter C100S that is also 100GPM.

They said that i can use mine but i will have to make new connections because outlet of my actual filter is very low vs the new one which the change will be minor on my actual minimal space. Attached are better pics for reference.

Prices are the following:

1. Waterway combo $680.00 (1year warranty)
2. Hayward combo $1,700.00 (3 year warranty)
3. If i stay with my filter $400.00 less.

Actually the pool guy told me to make a test and only run my actual pump for 4 hours in the morning to see if i see a reduction on electricity consumption.

Your filter - 100 sq. ft.
Hayward C100S - 100 sq. ft.
You gain nothing by replacing yours with the new Hayward unless there is a problem with the one you have now. Its possible that they use the same cartridge.
It may be a little more difficult to plumb the new pump to the filter, but it is not that hard, really.
The 100gpm rating is highly optimistic. It is mostly marketing hype. While the cartridge itself MAY allow that much flow, the plumbing in your system likely won't.

Thanks once again @1poolman1 for all your help and yes i agree with you that i must work with the replumbing if any. The plumping is 2".

Now going to the Motor replacement route, which way you will take? Will you think the Hayward $1,700 will really be an advantage long term vs the Waterway 2 Speed $680.00? I ask because buddy i received a electrical bill of $500.00 in one month so to pay that money for a Company i prefer to waste it in me. jajajajajaj

Really appreciated.

More information on the Waterway pump is needed. A picture of the rating label would be good, or a model number. It may work out that just running a two-speed on low all the time is the better (most economic sense) way to go.

Here is the Sales Sheet. I can't get the datasheet for 110v but here is the 230v as i don't know if they will be the same. I think they have a switch for either way.

The Pool Store will not send me a clear pic in order to see the model. He want me to go there and that is a long thread.

Based on the pic he sent me i think it is this on the link but don't have the Datasheet:

The motor on this pump, at low speed, should use about 325 watts per hour. If your electric rate is $.50/kw, you can run this for 3 hours for 50 cents. Continuous low speed MAY be enough to keep your pool clear. At high speed, it will use about 1.2kw per hour or about 60 cents per hour. This is based on the rating plate of a similar motor to the one on the Waterway pump.

Over time, the VSP can pay for itself, but the upfront cost is higher.

Think i found something:

ManufacturerWaterway
Pump ModelHi-Flo
Speed2 Speed (2-Spd)
Motor Voltage115v
Drain Plug Location3,6,9 o`clock
Suction StyleCenter
Suction Connection TypeMale Buttress Thread (mbt)
Suction Pipe Size2"
Discharge StyleSide
Discharge Connection TypeFemale Pipe Thread (fpt), Male Buttress Thread (mbt)

Horsepower1.0SPL
Motor Frame48 Frame Thru-Bolt
Motor Amperage/Wattage9.5A/3.2A
hi-flo-2-curve.jpg

$.44/hour high, $.52/3 hours low. Not a lot of difference
Perfect. So that means there is no brainer to go with the Waterway 2 speed and with the advantage that it is a combo with the filter and base. I am correct?

Hey man thanks for all the effort in trying to help me out. I am in lack of knowledge and your expertise in invaluable. Really appreciate it Buddy.
