1st Time New Pool Owner ( Long time hot tub owner ) …GREEEEN 🤮

Are you sure about this? The picture you posted shows the level really low in the tube. That would indicate really high CYA, not 0. Can you check this again or post a better picture?
Hi , thanks for re-asking about this . I think your right , that is why I posted the picture because it took so little of water it never registered . Confused me that one . The early test strips test , never even changed the colour of the paper , so again confused .
Here are couple pics

Your cya is higher than 90 - you need to do the diluted test - STEP 8👇

Sorry gang . That was my fault for not posting a better picture and saying "0" because I didn't understand the test and the low reading .
Be sure to read my post above & do not add any stabilizer yet-
Post your results from the diluted cya test.

This means CYA is over 200.

You should do another diluted test of either 2 or 3 parts tap and 1 part pool water. Multiply the final result by 3 or 4. Looks like you're going to have to drain a lot of water to get things right.

You are new to this and it takes a minute.

If it helps any, I totally missed your picture and fouled up myself. We can be screwups together. :)

But that's why we have tons of help. @MITBeta with the save today, and others will do the same later and tomorrow. Then it's back to Beta's turn.

Ugghhh 😒….. people we bought the house from must have been swimming in chlorine last summer . Unless the pool people that closed it down last fall threw in a mass amount of shock that ups the cya . We just put in water , 4 gallons of liquid chlorine , and a bucket and a half of calcium hypochlorite🤷🏻‍♂️, how much should I drain ? 1/2 … 3/4 ?

You are over 200 and if it was only a 200, you would need to drain 85% to reduce the CYA to 30. It's fairly common with long term puck use and/or pool store shocking.

For giggles, do another CYA test with 2 parts tap water and one part pool water. Multiply by 3.

The amount of water to exchange is directly proportional to the amount of cya.
If u want a 75% reduction you need to exchange 75% of the water.
You are a little limited to the amount because you shouldn’t drain lower than 12”-18” of water remaining in the shallow end or the liner could shift.
You can also consider a no drain water exchange
Here’s some options & how to👇

Morning pool pals , we’re on our fill today after a drain to 16 inches above the shallow side . I suspect we will have to do this a few more times . Is it worth putting a gallon of liquid chlorine in ? Or just wait ? Also have a K 2006 test kit I could sell to someone in Canada 🇨🇦. Not sure where I could advertise this on this forum , or if I’m allowed . 🤷🏻‍♂️

Having some chlorine in the water will prevent things from getting worse. As the draining & refilling can take some time.
You can probably do another round or two of draining/ refilling & then test your cya to see where u have landed.

Good morning Pool Pals , Monday morning update , we are completing our 3 rd half drain this morning , and by 1-2 pm ( pacific time) we should be full again . What are the proper steps to go . Should i prime the pump and let it run for a certain amount before testing ? Am I doing a cya test first or go through all the tests again? Thanks 🙏

Yes. It will mix some as it's filling, but you'll want it GOOD and mixed before you test. I'd give it 30 mins of runtime first.
Am I doing a cya test first
Yes. Make sure you lowered it enough. (y)

Once it's confirmed, get the appropriate FC in there per the FC/CYA Levels and PoolMath. Post your full test results and we will hatch a plan from there if anything else needs tweaking.
