What all should be logged? How often should I log?
FC and ph is the only one I check daily. Should I log them as well?

Just to ask the obvious are you testing with the FAS DPD or the oto for the FC result? You're probably doing it right but the formation of algae blooms in the pool bottom is not possible at the FC levels you report with your CYA level. So this has to be a flow issue where locally you don't have adequate water movement that can be changed by changing the orientation of your returns, circulating longer, or increasing your FC level, or could be a test issue.

I log all tests and chemical additions when I do them. Been worth it. We can see what you did and when to help diagnose problems and see how your pool behaves. You get better answers hear and learn your pool better..

To keep more than one log you must subscribe, otherwise it will just keep being replaced- but in my opinion it’s a great value for the service it provides. I have a hot tub & a pool so they’re both set up on there. I log everything! Maintenance, adding water, expenses etc. there are many features including the ability for other members on the forum to “check my work” if I am having an issue. Extra sets of eyes can be helpful when you’re stumped.
I really like that I can look back at this time last year & get an idea of what cya i was running or how often i backwashed.
Its also nice to push a button & see what my pool cost me for the season.

Yes, I have been using FAS DPD for testing.
I have been maintaining the FC level based on the cya level. And that is why I was surprised to see algae blooms.
My wife complains that the pool guy used to come once a week and never had algae. Since I took over, spend so much time and keep checking and adding chemicals daily, still have algae issues. Unfortunately, I have no come back for that, lol.
There are 3 returns. Orientation cannot be changed, as they are just openings built into the wall. The one in the shallow end has the weakest flow, and the most algae blooms.
The filter runs from 7 am to 5 pm. The spa spillway is on from 7 am to 9 am(2 hours).
If 9ppm FC is not doing it, should I increase and maintain it at 11ppm?
Testing issue - I follow and record color changes/number of drops, so I doubt that is the problem.

Are those stains or is the plaster completely gone down to the gunite? Appears like copper cyanurate stains. Are they purplish in color?

You should add some eyeballs that you can direct. They make ones for non-threaded returns like yours, but such as these ones. Then you can get good circulation.

Not stains. That is how the plaster is. I figured, it was due to aging.
No purple hue.

If you are down to gunite in that much area, you will struggle. Gunite is porous. The plaster is what makes it water proof.

Do they come in a standard size? Or, Do I need to measure the diameter?
How do they stay on? Since they cannot be screwed in.
Hmm. Replastering sounds expensive. I will look into it. It maybe sometime before I can do it

I don't know anything about them, other than they exist. My guess is they come in a variety of standard sizes. I don't know how they stay in. They might have different kinds, some that need to be glued, otherwise that rely on friction.

I can see your logs now. With a pool your size it might be worth while testing FC at several locations to see if you have uniformity and/or have a location that is lowest FC level.
