Brand New Pool Owners

Never had a pool before so it’s our first time trying to care for one. Brand new 18x36 Hayward saltwater system installed last fall. Glad to be here and learn how to take care of it ourselves.

I was brand new pool owner last September. I find the water care easy peasy. If you haven't yet, get yourself the TF100 kit and the speedstir. You test the water the same time every day (I do early evening after the sun isn't hitting the water). The key is keeping the Free Chlorine at the right level and then the right CYA. The pool math app that you can get here does all the calculations and tells you what to do. If you have a SWG it will keep the chlorine level correct for you once you initially get it set with liquid chlorine or bleach or whatever you choose to do. Adde my morton salt and that was it. I add muriatic acid maybe a couple times got tweak the PH. I had the pool for a 2 months essentially before closing but the testing was super simple. Took 5 minutes. If you have gunite there probably is more to do with TA and CH but still easy to test and monitor using the pool math app. I never owned a pool in my life nor did my parents so I was/am still a complete rookie but if you read the pool school stuff you will understand the relationships and its super simple. Good luck and welcome aboard as the people here are so nice and helpful and really if the rest of the country was like this we would be in a really really good place!!

Thank you for the input. Reading through the pool school info now. Pool math app keeps crashing on me. But it might just be my phone. Going to try on my wife’s later on.

Solved. Pool math App was crashing because I didn’t have a pool setup added to my profile yet. Filled in the pool data and the app works properly.
