Quick Background: My old Aqualink RS4 cannot control the Pentair Intelliflow installed last year via RS-485 (unsupported). It's a simple single pump system so I have been running the on/off schedule via the Aqualink RS All Button (which basically controls the 240 volt power to the pump). On the pump I have a low speed 24 hr schedule to cover the freeze protect and a few others for normal use and skimming twice a day. It works fine but has limitations in that it can't automatically change speed when you switch to SPA for example. It's okay for me but would be confusing for anyone else.

I found a RS4 P&S control board with the latest Rev T.2 firmware on eBay that I plan to install and switch to using RS-485. I do not have the IQ30-A Wi-Fi connect module. I'm hoping that the Aqualink will create a default speed table when the pump model is selected which I can then tweak via the All Button controller.

Can someone please confirm that I will be able to program the Intelliflo VF via the All Button Controller without needing to use the web interface?

Thank you in advance!

Hi Allen,
Thank you for your reply but I'm still not clear on whether the 'default speed table' below, mentioned in Jandy Aqualink RS - Further Reading | Trouble Free Pool under Pumps, VSP Setup and Scheduling will be created when I select the Intellipro via the Aqualink All Button menus or is this just relevant to the iAqualink?

I'm assuming that what the RS Control board does has no relation to the speed settings on the pump itself which get overridden when the RS-485 connection is made. I've also seen you can use the Aux on the controller to run it like a 2 speed pump but I'm hoping to have full controller via the All Button controller (like you have with the graphical interface with iLink) . I guess it will all become clear when the board is swapped and I can see what the new menus look like.

I don’t have that setup and can not tell you for certain.

The Aqualink will override and not use any speed settings in the pump.

Update: I had the board changed out and there are no options in the All Button menus to select the type of pump or change speeds etc. So it looks like the Aqualink RS One Button cannot program or control a variable speed pump - only the iLink or the One Touch have this functionality.

The pool equipment is over 100 feet from the house so I'd probably need a repeater to use the Wi-Fi connect module. I note that you can select a 2 speed pump via dip switch 2 on the board and use an aux port for slow speed but no idea if that would work with a variable speed pump. I guess I will continue to operate the way I have been while I decide whether to throw more money at Jandy or look into one of the many DIY automation projects.

Did you confirm your new board has Rev T.2?

Yes it is. In the install manual it doesn't show anything about variable speed in the All Button section; that info is all under One Touch. Also in Section 3.3.4 of the Install Manual ( https://www.iaqualink.com/-/media/zodiac/global/downloads/0748-91071/6594.pdf ) it says "Note that AquaLink® RS will not start communicating with the Pentair® IntelliFlo® VF until it has been configured accordingly. See the AquaLink® RS Owner's Manual (P/N 6593L) for more information." 6593 is the One Touch Users Guide https://www.iaqualink.com/-/media/zodiac/global/downloads/0748-91071/6593.pdf.

My pump display never changed - the board is not communicating with it. I suspected it would not work the way I hoped which is why I asked the question here. I'll keep my eyes open for a WiFi Connect Module on eBay.

I found an IQ30-A Wi-Fi connect module on eBay and took a chance. I installed it this afternoon. Everything is working correctly now with added bonus that my Home Assistant can read and control the system as well. Total cost was $700 which is pretty good although there is always a risk buying with no guarantee or return available. I also got the heater fixed finally after being offline for over a year using a non-Pentair manifold. So all I need to do now is get the solar cover cut to fit but I need a less windy day to do that.

Might be worth adding a note to the guide on the Wiki that the control center with All Button controller cannot talk RS-485. You have to have a One Touch or the iLink that simulates a One Touch to control VSP pump.

Done.
