Finally went out and checked out the gas line that supplies my missing heater (last one rusted out according to the previous owner).

Turns out it's 3/4" pipe on a 60' run from the meter. Can't imagine why they had heater trouble with that MASSIVE supply line.. guess my pool heater project is on hold until next year. Sucks, I was really looking forward to a nice dip in the spa. Fortunately it's almost a straight shot from the meter to the equipment pad. Pretty sure I can handle laying that gas line myself.

We have an eastern white pine tree by the fence that drops these long soft needles and they are everywhere. My son was off from school today so I had him help me start to rake them up so that when we open the pool, they don't just immediately blow in there. I am dying to peel back a corner of the cover and take peak but I'm afraid I'll never get the metal loops reattached to the screws. I drained it down pretty good last year in hopes of lowering CYA. We lifted the skimmer top cover to see inside and there's water touching the weir door but not not much further. I'm so afraid, yet weirdly curious, to see how many dead worms are collecting in the bottom of that pool.
 
It was tempting to do something today to the pool since the temperature got above 80F but I resisted since pollen season is just around the corner. I'm keeping my safety cover on for now.

My new Intellivalve stopped working so I went into my EasyTouch system and found it was no longer configured. Just vanished. So I added it back into my system and it's working fine again. This isn't the first time my EasyTouch system has lost settings.
 
This weekend, we had temps that got up to the low 80s. I thought about breaking down the "winter shelter" around the equipment pad, but decided I should wait. I'm glad I waited since it is supposed to snow in a few days and temps are supposed to get down in the teens again. I am getting pretty tired of our yo-yo weather.
 
Decided to pump the ground water out of my vertical pipe. dropped the pump in and a few hours later all done. Crappy 4-6" of snow this weekend and then hopefully we are done with any more snow this year. Also scheduled my opening for the first week of April (my first opening since pool built last summer).

Not necessarily what we did for the pool, but the surrounding area. We sent our 15 year old patio furniture off for sandblasting, powder coating, new swivel bushings and new slings. Should be like new when we get everything back for about 25% of the price of new. It’s all good quality stuff (Hannamint and Milan), but paint is peeling and slings are aged. I was bummed about getting rid of it when I found a refurbishment company in the area. Fingers crossed!

After enjoying some tasty coffee and leisure time this morning poolside, I decided to take down the winter shelter from the equipment pad. There was a lot of leaves and debris, so cleaned that out as well. The water temp is about 55 degrees so cranked up the SWCG to do an ops check...all good! I think before it gets too warm, I will build a couple of removable insulated walls for the winter shelter. The tarp/moving blankets method has worked well, but it's not the prettiest thing to look at.

I will also start planning on how to deal with the pool fence that we aren't big fans of. We don't have kids (just a couple of small dogs), so the 48" safety fence is pretty tacky looking. I would like to figure out how to construct something that isn't as ugly and is only 12-18" tall.
