new pool owner first water test

Any SWCG would best be at least 3x your pool volume.
First time I have seen this suggestion on TFP. The recommendation has been 2x. I understand your rationale, but is this recommendation because he has a pool size that would allow a 3x cell?

The SW desert climate. We can easily lose 5 or 6 ppm FC per day June, July, and August.

Does it get cold enough here that SWG would not work for the winter months anyway?
I suspect in Las Vegas (especially the west side) your water will be cold enough in December, January, and February that the SWCG will not operate. For me here in Laughlin, it normally is only 6 weeks or so in late December and January.

What do you do during those months that it's too cold for your SWCG to operate? I ask because I am still debating on whether to go with a SWCG or not.

Thanks!
Sam

Add liquid chlorine as needed. Typically once or twice a week.

FYI in case someone is concerned with draining their pool a significant amount to replace water:

You can put a garden hose running water on the opposite end of your pool drain and this will essentially replace the water as it overflows. This might be a bit more costly in terms of water used when needing to replace a certain amount, but it's another way. My PB told me a few ways to replace it with my equipment and this seemed to be the easiest and safest.

Thoughts from any experts?
