We have not yet started digging, should start this upcoming Tuesday, Aug. 10th. Signed contract back in April. I have been trying to search threads and educate myself as much as I can without getting confused with all the new lingo. Any advice on what to key an eye for during the construction? I will be at home acting as our own project manager, which I’ve already had to call in our first inspection and print out the plans and permit to pass inspection. It’s off to a frustrating start but glad to have my new home construction knowledge to lean on. I’ve tried to add details I understand, to my profile for reference, still have much to learn. Any advice on things to try to look for and avoid would be greatly appreciated!

We are digging now on this upcoming Monday & shooting the gunite Friday. Fingers crossed with the weather!
I’ve always heard to buy a home with a pool installed already, don’t build one as you won’t get your money back…. Well I wish someone would have said you loose your sanity in the process lol… all these delays… we thought we would have had our pool by now, by what was promised to us at contract. Almost 4 months have passed! Thankful to be in Houston with warmer temperatures throughout the year, I think we are looking at a November completion date. At least the pool will be heated haha! (Apologies for delayed response, I had the notifications enabled for email, however, they have been going to my spam folder 🤦🏼‍♀️) I thought I had created a profile on my page… did I do this incorrectly?

Two items that jump out are Ozone and no SWCG. The Ozone is a waste. It will just aerate the water and cause your pH to rise. No real effect on water chemistry.

Without a SWCG you will be adding liquid chlorine to the pool EVERY DAY. If you rely on trichlor tablets, you will lose control of your pool water chemistry.

You also selected an in floor cleaning system. Do realize your pump will need to run at higher RPM for that to function. Did you also have installed wall returns so if the IFCS does not work well you can abandon it and use a robot?

I don’t realize anything to do with pools, I did screenshot your response and sent it to my project manager and he is sending it to their head of warranty to give me more feedback. So thank you for your response, it is helpful. I know this forum in general prefers salt water, so aside from the fact we have chosen not to go with salt water, feedback is greatly appreciated.

Those infloor cleaners can often be a nuisance. I would suggest instead to get a good robot. They use hardly any energy compared to robots and if they fail you just toss it and get another and you'll still be ahead money wise.
Robots work far better also. And as a bonus they climb the walls and brush up to the water line.
