Sand filter medium

Not if the SWCG is off. It is the only device that makes that kind of scale. You are absolutely sure you are not adding any solid chlorine products.

Only solid that has been put into pool has been cya and the phDown I've used this year. Everything else has been a liquid. I've had the powder issue all this season, not just during slam so swg hasn't been off until I've started slam.

It will react to various calcium scale compounds with varying orders of reaction. Calcium carbonate is the most violent. Then calcium sulfate, calcium phosphate, etc.

Acid corrodes metals. Did this start when you started using the sodium bisulfate? You do know that product will destroy the SWCG, right?

Maybe my csi was way off early this season and didn't know it because I didn't track it. I could reenter those test numbers now and see what csi was then.

I do now....and it was before. It was right as we opened pool and I didn't add any phdown until well after opening pool.

Pool manufacturer says muratic acid makes calcium fall out of suspension and you say phdown destroys the swg. Not saying your wrong. Just hard to know what to do at times.

Muriatic acid does not make calcium fall out of suspension. Pool builders are typically clueless when it comes to chemistry.

I doubt that anyone says that.

Ask them, in writing, to clarify their position on that.

Someone misspoke or you misunderstood.

In any case, get a liter of distilled water and add 200 milligrams of the precipitate to the water.

Allow the precipitate to dissolve and then test the water for TA and calcium.
