First Real Test

My TF100 arrived today and I now have real numbers to work from. I also did a test on my fill water, but didn't remember if there's a place to store that info in the app, or if I should just keep that in mind and recheck from time to time.

Pool Water:
FC: 7.5ppm
CC: 0 (it MIGHT have been 0.5 fhe first time, but tried it again and 0)
CYA: 52
PH: 7.5
TA: 140 (my well water numbers exploded my brain)
CH: 300
Temp: 80
CSI: 0.1

Well Water:
CH: 150-175, tested twice and thought it was one more drop the second time.
TA: 240! That's why my pool's TA went thru the roof after the CYA drains.
pH: 7.6

I'm going to slowly increase CH and salt levels over time... SWG is ordered and I'm waiting to see the tracking number before I let myself get REALLY excited.

Looks like my next action is dump some more MA into the pool and aerate.

I would not add CH yet. If you use your fill water to make up for evaporation, it will rise.
No need to force TA down. CSI is fine for now. As your pH rises to 8, lower to 7.4. TA will come down some. When you install your SWCG, if you see it shedding scale at polarity reversals, then lower TA.
CYA is either 50 or 60. Can't interpolate a logarithmic scale.

So what I'm hearing you say is, looks like the only thing I'm needing to pour ... is ... a beer? down my facehole?
 
Not bad numbers at all. I agree with Marty. wouldn't rush on the TA just yet. 140 is slightly elevated, but north of you in the IL area it can reach 500, so you're okay. :) Your CH isn't all that bad either, so if you do top-offs in the season it should climb.

Make sure to pour the beer accurately as to not spill any of the chemicals. :cheers:

I'm excited to learn more about that. Do I just round to the nearest line on the skinny beaker with the googly-eye in the bottom?

Edit: Ohhhhh, I actually read that scale upside down... The fluid level was just "above" 50, putting it between 50 and 40.
 
When you do the CYA test, try this next time.

Once you have your solution ready, back to the sun, etc. Fill the vial to a line, say 80, lower the vial to your waist level and glance for the dot, you see it, add solution to the 70 line, glance, see it, repeat until you no longer see it with a glance. Then use the CYA value one step above the line you read. So if you stopped at 50, use 60 ppm CYA.

The vial is in logarithmic scale. So it is not viable to interpolate between the lines. Just use the whole numbers, such as 50, 40, 30, ....
 
Oh. I brought my sample bottle full of pool water inside and did the test inside next to the laundry room sink. Which brings up a question: It seems like this stuff is diluted enough to be safe to put down a septic tank? I know I read something somewhere not to dump it back into the pool.

I'll try the CYA test outside tomorrow. Good to know numbers rounded to the 10s is acceptable. I've recreated the approximate test level, how would you score this?

It took me a minute to internalize that. Makes better sense to me now and really speeds up the test.
