Switching from a cartridge to sand filter

I have no problem with any filter types.
IMO all 3 exist after all these years because all 3 work.
They exactly do. Everybody has their favorite and nobody is wrong. But my point was you can go way bigger with the cartridges to compare apples to apples.

I use a cartridge filter. I have a massive amount of debris that can fall into the pool along with a forest full of pollen. I use nylon skimmer socks to prevent most of the junk from hitting the cartridge and while I probably don’t need to, I LIGHTLY pressure wash the cartridge every two weeks. I actually have two cartridges so I can exchange them. I let the newly cleaned cartridge sit in the sun until dry sand put it away to change out. This is an hour of maintenance every two weeks.

*and not sand.

I've yet to see proof they do not clean down as far as anything else as far as real life results.
I know what people say, but, people say a lot of things.

Maybe I'm crazy but to me a sand filter is more than fine enough for a swimming pool and a DE simply isn't worth the work.

But, to each their own.
I think the time where each filter will show their strength and weakness is when you have to slam and clear the pool. Otherwise if you are following the TFP methods, you probably won't see much difference since your pool will always be TFP clear.

I did SLAM with a sand filter. Went fine. I was religious about it though - testing and dosing every 2 to 3 hours, and brushing frequently.

If you get algae cartridge filters are more of a pain. But like you said I stay ahead of it and bought a huge 4 cartridge so it takes a lot to even raise the pressure 1psi
