Pool Robot Recommendation M600 vs S200 - Have Called Marina - Need Advice

I have been reading/following this forum and know that most people recommend the S200 pool robot and make their purchase from Marina Pools. Based on that I contacted them and forwarded a copy of our pool plans (attached to this post for reference). Our pool is a 20'x40' lazy L with roman ends and it tri-level which is somewhat unique. The guy at Marina said that the S200 is their normal recommendation, and that they normally don't recommend the more expensive robots, but based on our pool he thought that we should go with an M600. He said that the dual motors, ability to run for 2.5 hours and additional filtration/volume would be better due to the size of our pool. He indicated that an S200 could work and in an ideal situation it would be good to demo one if I could find a store that offered that locally.

I am posting to get any advice or second opinions on my situation since the M600 is double the cost of the S200.

Thanks,
Dan

S,

It won't matter what type of cleaner you get, it will be a challenge for that layout.

I personally like the idea of a longer run time and not sure you can get that with the S200 style robots..

I'd trust Marina as in this case I don't think they are trying to up-sell you.. In most cases, that we have seen, they normally push people to the cheaper robots.

The main problem is just what you said.. You are buying something you hope will work without any guarantee that it will.. I too wish that robots could be demo'd..

Thanks,

Jim R.

I’ve been wondering this exact same thing with a future 20X40 build on the horizon. Here are some good questions for the next time you talk to them.

How many square feet is too big for a 2 hour runtime ?

Will it cover each spot 2 out of 3 times and that’s good enough, Or does it miss half+ the pool everytime ?

Can you just do 2 cycles with the S200 and it’s the same thing for half the price ?

I agree, I have never ever heard of them trying to upsell, they almost always talk people out of the higher models... the S200 is a beast for the money :)

The longer run time is the only reason for the M600 recommendation and I agree it will be a hard pool to hit everything...

I got the m600 for the longer run time. My run time options are 1.5hrs, 2hrs, or 2.5hrs. Unless they changed something since last year you may want to verify that 3.5hr runtime. Every other week or so I will run a floor only 2.5hr cycle to make sure it covers all the corners in the pool. Its nice to be able to do that.

I just looked at the specs and that is correct

Cleaning Cycle(s)1.5 / 2 / 2.5 Hours

You can always set it up on a smart plug in automation mode and have it run a second cycle or part of a cycle each day. I do this manually when we power wash the deck.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I absolutely agree they are not trying to upsell.
Honestly I have never watched one of these robots clean. Will need to look for a video on YouTube. I have a strange question, I can buy 2 S200s for the price of a single M600. Could 2 robot cleaners work or would they get tangled in each other’s cords? Was thinking that way I could buy one, see how it goes then add the second if necessary.

I am fortunate enough to have a dealer that does demos locally I had a premier for 5+ years and was very happy with it but it died. My pool is 20 x 35 kidney bean so not as challenging as yours. I demoed the m600 and the s200 and they both did a great job. =Margaret from Marina recommended the s200 prior to me doing the demo and id did a great job cleaning the pool. I wound up ordering the s200i with Margaret yesterday for the 2.5 hour run time that matches the m600 as well as the enhanced cleaning schedule and the bumper to bumper warranty as opposed to the limited on the other 2 models. With the longer run times I dont know that the additional pump on the m600 made much of a difference as I did not sit and watch it clean.

Wasn't that a TV show once where 2 robots battled :)

Sorry the alerts for this were in my junk mail box. fat fingered the model I purchased the s300i
How do you like your s300i? That was the other recommendation from Marina for our pool. I feel like they are all pretty similar, except some have a few more bells and whistles.

FYI one thing that made me not chose a wireless remote control versions is that the cord replacement is much more expensive (2-3x when I checked). The other is that I don't see remote control as a real viable way to "steer" the unit.
