New Pentair Superflo VS and interface with Jandy RS

I am looking to upgrade my 115v 1.5 HP single-speed Pentair Whisperflow to the Pentair Superflo VS (Salt Pool/Spa-combo). I have been avoiding it because of the awkward control interface with my Jandy Aqualink RS6 All Button (rev T.2) control and its lack of additional relay space. But, recently Pentair has come out with a 115v Superflo VS pump that uses a RS-485 control wiring kit that looks similar to the one used for the Intelliflo VS. Does anyone have experience with the control wiring and programming of the new Superflo and the Jandy RS? Jandy documentation does not mention this interface method. (I know I could just upgrade to the Intelliflo but I was hoping to avoid the rewire to 230v.)

It appears to me that in the old days, an attempt was made to between Hayward, Jandy, and Pentair so that they could control each other's VS pumps.. But as time went on, that no longer appears to be the case.. I know Jandy can control some of the IntelliFlo pumps but not all of the newer pumps are completely compatible.. I would be very careful about buying a new pump without knowing for sure that it would work.

The problem of course is who to ask.. If you ask Jandy, they will say it is not their pump, and if you ask Pentair they will say it is not their automation.. :(

"External Control via RS-485 The following instructions only apply to SuperFlo®VST and SuperMax® VS pumps manufactured after 10/15/20. For all other pumps, refer to External Control via Digital Inputs on page 6.These pumps can be controlled from certain Pentair control systems, via an RS-485 signal, when paired with the RS-485 Automation Wiring Kit (P/N 356324Z - Black). Note: IntelliConnect® Control and Monitoring Systems can NOT externally control this pump via RS-485. The pump will need to be connected via digital inputs. Refer to External Control via Digital Inputs on page 6. Note: If the pump is manually stopped using the Start/Stop button, the pump will not run until the Start/Stop button is pressed. If the Start/StopLED is illuminated, the pump is active and can be controlled externally.Only the GREEN and YELLOW conductors will be used to wire the pump for external control via RS-485. See Figure 4" ... "Control System Pump SettingsPump Type:Variable Speed (VS)Control systems with older firmware may require the pump be designated "IntelliFlo VS".This pump will not process control system commands if designated a Variable Flow (VF) or Variable Speed/Flow (VSF) pump."

This seems to be exactly the same way you hook up an Intelliflo pump to the Jandy RS. But, I have never tried that either. I am sure many people have experience with this though.

As you so aptly recommend, I am hoping to find anyone with recent experience. I am not getting a lot of help from Jandy or Pentair. I prefer not to be the guinea pig.

If it works, I think it could save some of us pool owners that have older 115V systems hundreds of dollars and considerable installation aggravation.

Notice it says the RS-485 is on the SuperFlo VST and not the SuperFlo VS...

I agree with your idea of posting here to see what other owners of the SuperFlo VS or VST have to say..

I'll be interested to see what they say also..

Let's see if any of our members have this newer version of the pump.

Does your aqualink board have 2 of the red rs485 ports? If so its VS pump compatible so in that case I would definitely use the new Jandy dual voltage pumps. I like the 1.85hp model and have installed a couple hundred of these thus far. I have pool repair buddies and they also use this model. Its far superior to that superflo which I refuse to use on any pool. 1.5hp is weak. Most single speeds come in at 1.65hp with the service factor. A 1.65hp VS pump is the bare minimum I would ever use. But the 1.85hp model is amazing. Different motor that is so quiet and smooth.
 
Who makes the motor?

Do you use the iQPUMP01 with iAquaLink App Control or the JEP‑R Controller when someone does not have a compatible automation system?
It's the Nidec motor which is U.S. motors. Same motor used on the NEW hayward tristars, waterway variable speed pumps, jandy pumps, and the replacement affinity vs motors. Also the same as leslies rebranded hayward tristar pumps.

Yes I almost always use the iqpump01. Probably 95% of the time. It's a great little controller and haven't had any callbacks on these setups. Out here there are a lot of boosterpumps too. So I always setup the power feed for the booster from the new built in relay in the pump. Eliminates 2 old timeclocks and I clean everything up nicely.

I wish that the auxiliary relays were configurable for trigger speed vs. a set trigger speed.

Great video review! He mentioned all of the great features and specs. One thing I'll add is the bonding lug is larger and open. So you don't have to cut the existing bonding wire to install it like you would on say an intelliflo. So you don't need a copper split bolt connector to reconnect. It's large enough also to input two #8 copper bondings if that's the situation. I come across so many jobs where another person has installed a new piece of equipment and left the bonding wire disconnected. Theres no excuss here.

You get a nice range for the auxiliary relay triggers so its not to big an issue. The rpm shown is just the starting point and rolls all the way to the max 3450rpm.
