I don't have lights. I'm still battling it. Last night I put it at 15, 12 hours later is was 13. Raised to 15 at 8am, by noon it was 8. It's very hot today and the pool is in full sun most of the day

Lowe's stuff seems ok. I took it to 12, waited 10 mins, and it tested at 13.

Now it's testing at 15. I haven't put anything more in, all I did was brush the walls an hour ago. So the Lowe's is stronger then the labeled 10%? I'm so confused. I tested it twice two different kits.

Edit: Maybe its because I went back to 15k gallons pool in the math app? It was at 12k I changed it because we thought maybe that was messing with the numbers

Edit2: 12fc to 15fc seems like a lot for a 3k gallon difference though.

*Remember when testing drop size matters- hold the bottle straight up & down & let the drops fall naturally. It’s easy to overlook this when testing so frequently. Hopefully u got a potent batch of lc & you’re on your way Try to wait a little longer before testing so u know its good & mixed too.

I wonder if I didn't have a problem at all? Maybe the bad chlorine was deteriorating so fast I thought it was alga? I had 4 cases of the stuff and used almost all of it in like a week.

9:30pm it was 11.5, I added 3 cups, 5oz of 10% to bring it to 13.
11:00pm checked just before bed and it was 13 (1.5 hours from adding anything).

Setting alarm for 4:30am.

I can also smell the chlorine now, I don't remember smelling it while walking past the pool with the other stuff

Remember when u do the Overnight Chlorine Loss Test to test for cc’s too.

You aren’t done w/ SLAM Process
Until all 3 are true:
You are done when:

• CC is 0.5 or lower;
• You pass an Overnight Chlorine Loss Test & it shows a loss of 1.0 ppm or less);
• And the water is clear.

4:30am 11fc dumped the rest of a bad chlorine bottle I had left, maybe 2qts.
9:00am 13.5fc
12:30pm 8.5fc, took it to 13
4:50pm: 6fc, took it to ~13 (a whole gallon)

Wow, that's a lot of FC loss. It has to be hidden algae somewhere and/or the sun eating through a bunch, especially given your afternoon loss.

For the hidden algae, usually those are in lights (you said you have none), ladders (I cant remember if you have one and have removed/cleaned), water features, and skimmers. Double check and clean all that apply.

For your afternoon loss, have you checked your CYA recently? You want to keep it at around 30 so your FC doesnt get used up by the sun.

Last I checked cya it was between 20 and 30 after adding 1 pound, assuming 30 for slam and will up it after
