Adding Cal-Hypo to raise CH

My CH has been at 175 from the last couple weeks and I feel pretty good about my test process on this with my TF100. I have some 73% cal-hypo shock bags and wondered if I just use those to shock the pool every few weeks would that be OK vs adding in CH up to move to 200-250 ? The Pool Math app shows effect of 1 pd being a raise of 5.8 so it seems to be a nice slower way to both shock and keep the CH moving up but not going over the 250 range- With my current test results my CSI shows balance so I am thinking no reason to but something I might not need -

There is no reason to 'shock' a properly managed pool. You can use the cal hypo for daily chlorination needs.

Just add instead to replenish the Chlorine level in the pool ?
Yes. Cal Hypo is chlorine and calcium. Select it in Poolmath to guide you on the amounts needed. Be sure to thoroughly brush the area you put it so it fully dissolves.

Thanks - I will do just that. - I know winter is a ways off however my pool stays open. I do not swim but it is not closed - How does someone properly maintain in the winter ? I ask so that I think about what I do now and how it may impact how much I raise my CYA or CH during the summer so next spring I am not dealing with draining a pool or other effects of poor choices now - Last year I did zero tabs and just used shock like 1X a week using the cal hypo 73%.

In the winter you test and add the chlorine the pool needs. Depending on your pool, you might be able to go a few days or a week between tests and adding.
My SWCG maintains our FC for all of about 6 weeks of the year. So I just adjust that.
