I cant seem to rid my pool of this bubbly, foamy mess. I have not yet used my pool this year. I've shocked it a number of times. I've changed out the output hosses in case air was getting in there. I changed the sand in the sand filter. Could the foam be salt? If so, its never happened before. Ive had this pool for 4 years without a single issue.

Welcome to TFP!

No, salt doesn't make foam. That would be some chemical that was added to the pool. What all chemicals have you put in the water this year and last? Everything you can remember will help us narrow it down.

Wait... You never put anything in it? Nothing to adjust your pH or anything like that?

Are you using the Intex SWG? Not getting any kind of errors and it is running normally?

Ionizer? Ohhhhh, ok.

The problem is that you don't maintain a chlorine level in the pool. So a bunch of stuff grows in it. Also who knows what your pH or any of that is. So the water balance is completely out of whack, lacks a sanitizer or oxidizer, and is full of metals. So the foaming could be... well, just about anything.

If you don't maintain a residual chlorine level at all time and make sure your water is balanced then your water may be clear but it is horribly unsanitary.

Get u a proper test kitTest Kits Compared we suggest the tf100 then post the results & you’ll no longer have to guess. Also here’s some reading ABCs of Pool Water Chemistry to do until your kit comes in. Until then just add 5ppm of liquid chlorine/ day according to pool math for your size pool PoolMath

It worked perfectly for 3 years
It usually goes well until it doesn’t. There are lots of things that cause foaming -like algeacides, clarifiers & various other magic potions with unnamed inactive ingredients. Until you have test results that tell us where u are it’s really hard for us to help you get where you wanna go. This thread will be here for you when you have your results. Until then we suggest the 5ppm per day of liquid to prevent it from getting worse.

Formulations change all the time. They don't have to list what the inactive ingredients are. It may not be the problem, but at this point we have to look at all the usual suspects. Foaming like you see is generally caused by a few different things. White water mold will have a scummy appearance, but it doesn't usually foam. If you have used an algaecide that may cause foaming. Sometimes additives to liquid bleach to prevent splashing or added fragrances will foam. Calcium, maybe, but it usually causes clouding more than foam. The last suspect is someone put something in the pool that doesn't belong there, such as soap. Do you notice any scent to the water? Soft water may foam as well. What is your calcium level?
