It was most definitely NOT my intention to shame you, and I apologize profoundly and sincerely if I did. This site has been a miraculous help to me, and I have read to many others.

I have seen many other posts asking people to help support the site and was simply trying to do the same in a positive manner.

Again, my humblest apologies if my post read otherwise.

No problem, it did read a bit like you were suggesting that due to the length of the thread that I no longer deserved anyone’s attention until I donated (which I intended to do but had neglected). Regardless, the reminder was useful as I’ve now donated. Thanks!
 
Excited for Season 2 of the pool!

Opening will happen Thursday.

Once everything is up and running - just to confirm: Get chlorine in the pool, then adjust pH, and take rest of the readings from there. May also check salt right away for SWG. Perform an OCLT night one to confirm not algae in the pool then get the SWG rockin'.

I think I'll get a pool robot to clean this year. Was close to pulling the trigger last year. Is the Active20/S200 (with the ultra-fine + rough pre-filter combo) still the go-to preferred option around here? I believe one needs to ask for the filter swap out? Trying to remember my prior research.

If you are speaking about the robot -- if you call Marina Pool Spa and talk to them they typically are able to swap out the fliter to the combo. I did not get it, as we rarely have big debris.

That's correct. I do have trees/leaves so I'm going to go for the filter combo. Didn't want to mention Marina by name given the sensitivity here about promoting any specific company. Thank you, Marty.

On the chemistry - I assume I'm not missing anything on start-up? This is the first time I'm adding chemicals and testing at new season start-up.

Well, cover just came off and so attaching below pics. Spa is green and pool is blue. Assuming this means spa has algae. They are all hooked up to the same pipes so everything is going to mix. Haven’t done any chemistry readings yet which I’ll do shortly. Should I let the pump mix things up for a bit first?

Run the pump for several hours and run a full suite of tests. You will need to SLAM to eradicate the algae.
 
Once you run your tests, then add what the pool needs. Wait until you know what you have before using the SWCG.

Ok I haven’t needed to SLAM before so this is new territory for me. I will have questions.

for future years, given pool itself looks so good, is there anything I could do when closing or during winter to keep algae out of spa? Add anything mid-winter? Keep debris off spa cover? Etc etc.
 
Problem with the spa is a small water volume so I suspect it warmed up a lot faster than the pool.

You might try adding 10 ppm FC worth of liquid chlorine to the spa right now and mix it in with a brush. All before you start the system. But you will most likely have to SLAM anyway. Should be quick if you start soon.

Unfortunately the spa is already on and mixing with the pool :(
I can start the SLAM in a few hours once everything mixes and I take chemistry readings unless you have another suggestion for me?

Pool guy came out to open the pool for the season and i wasn't home so not sure what all he did. But the next working i noticed the pool cover was sagging a ton and the pump was making a weird sound. Looked at pump and pump was dry. Opened cover quickly and water was 2 inches below the tile. Super worried there was a leak since this is a new build that was completed last August and this was the first winter. Filled the pool back up and everything has been fine since but no idea where that much water went. It is a 46 x 18 pool so that was a couple thousand gallons of water. Seems like there would be a sink hole or swamp in my yard somewhere if it was just flushed out somewhere. Any ideas?

When that happened to me last year I found the valve set to waste and the guy had left for the day. Sounds like that’s not your issue.
