Old Member, New House and Pool

ok so here is today's update, they tried to do the RO but the water was so bad it shut their system down so now it is being drained, the RO guy is doing the drain for me then coming back in the morning to clean the pool before we start refilling, I went today and got chlorine so will be ready when it fills.. he also said that he was testing the cya and he stopped at 850 but was still going so he thinks it was probably over 1000.. I just can't grasp what these people did to this pool, the RO guy also knows of this site and complimented it immensely so that was good to hear :) now that it is mostly drained, I was able to get better pics of the returns and found main drain I think lol as well as skimmer area.. I also founf out from him that we have an auto fill ?‍♀️

Alright! :goodjob: You definitely found the drain and what also appear to be vacuum cleaner ports of some kind. The regular return jets are the ones with adjustable eyeballs. You might also look into remove that light while the water is low. Turn power off, remove the retaining screw, pull the light out and leave it on the deck for a bit while you clean inside that niche. Those are bog algae traps.

Yes sir will do that tomorrow morning when he comes to clean out the last bit of water and gunk then I should be able to better figure out what valves work what once it is refilled and not in a toxic state lol I swear that water will probably kill someone lol

They left this, no idea what it is or if it works lol
That's your vacuum cleaner. Can't tell which pool port it connects to, but the end of the vacuum hose might indicate if it matches-up. Whether it actually works well is something you'll find out later. :)

WHAT??? Man oh man that was so BAD water!! Sounds like you found a good guy in the RO guy.

that we did I got lucky on that, next on my list is to get robot cleaner but I am pretty clueless there ?‍♀️?‍♀️ I swear this is like I just got to this site7 years ago lol

im gonna leave that thing alone in case it matches everything else they have done here, better it goes in the garbage lol

So I took a few min to test what will be our fill water and the CH is still baffling me lol I have ordered refills for my kit just in case but for now I got:

PH: 7.8
TA: 110
CH can't get a real reading it just turns a pale pink (like if you are testing for CC's and clear it one drop pink)... so then I can't get to a color change, it's weird

Are you grabbing the water sample from an outside hose bib? No chance the water being tested was from a water softener?

Are you using the 10ml water sample size followed by 10 drops of #10, 3 drops of #11, then counting the #12 drops?

yup grabbed it outside from my hose lol no water softener on the house that we know of ?‍♀️ I use the directions with the kit so 25ml sample, 20 drops etc... same way I always have and nada, it's super weird the same thing happened testing the toxic water too lol and I am sure that water had lots of calcium as there is scale all over the tiles (problem for another time)

That is odd. I would expect Gilbert's water to be a tad hard. Just to make sure .....

If you expect that your CH level is very low, you can do the test so that each drop is 10, instead of 25, to get some extra precision. Use 25 ml of pool water, 20 drops of R-0010, 5 drops of R-0011L, and multiply the number of drops of R-0012 by 10 to get your CH level.

If everything seems correct above, try this method .....

The sample may turn purple during the test, or go to blue for a moment and then turn back to red/pink. This is called a “fading endpoint” and is caused by interference from metal ions. If this happens, do the test again, but this time add five drops of R-0012 before adding any R-0010 or R-0011L. Remember to count the initial five drops in the total.
In extreme cases, a fading endpoint may occur even when adding five drops of R-0012 at the start. If that happens, mix pool water with an equal quantity of distilled water, test that, and then multiply the result by two.

I will try but like you, I fully expected when we bought the house that 1. The cya would be sky high and 2. The CH would be higher than what I am used to and only ONE of those has been true so far ?‍♀️ I will try another test in a few minutes and see

Ok so I tried the ch test again using 10 ml & again at 25ml and same thing for both, it gets a very faint pink then there are no real discernible color changes, I think I WILL WAIT FOR MY REFILLS in case regents are bad ?‍♀️

@JamesW, please see OP's last few posts about her CH results. Anything odd stand-out to you that we haven't already addressed? Showing "faint pink"; continue with R-0012 drops to try and force a baby blue change, some other interference, or could the CH be unusually low in her water which would seem unlikely?

The pic with the pool light has a white "flow control" adapter sticking out of the wall. That is your vac port - and where the Hayward AquaNaut (similar to The Pool Cleaner) suction side cleaner connects.

You can pretty much bet your CH is around 250ppm out of the (non-softened) tap. I'm in Chandler and our water is around 250ppm - water source is from same canals and wells as yours.

If you decide to go with a robot, probably an S200 would suit your pool. Call Margaret at Marina Pools in Denver - they will have the best prices. Phone orders only - not in the net. Onfe ordered, you should have it 2 days later.

You can get standard solutions for the test to verify that the test is working properly.

If you have a gallon of distilled water and add 1.4 grams of calcium chloride dihydrate, it will make a solution with about 250 ppm calcium.

If the test works on a standard solution, the test error is probably due to interference from something in the water.

Metal ions, like copper etc would be likely suspects for interference.
