Switched to SWG

I've been reluctant moving to a SWG, but for convenience, I made the move.

I have an 8800 gallon 2 and a half year old plaster pool and spa that I've been using liquid chlorine except for when I'm away.
Because all my equipment is Pentair, I chose the Pentair iChlor 30 purchased and installed by Pinch A Penny (installed yesterday).

This mornings test results:
FC: 8 (down from yestersay)
CC: 0
pH: 7.8
TA: 65
CH: 340
CYA: 60
Salt: 4400
BOR: 50
Temp: 86
CSI: -0.24

iChlor set at 22%, filter on 9 hr/day

As the system settles in and adjustments become necessary, is it better to adjust the SWG % or the run time? Should the SWG be adjusted up to a certain % then adjust run time?

Any combination of pump run time and %SWCG is fine. For maximum electrical cost savings, run SWCG at 100% and adjust pump run time.

It does not matter, use whatever works for you.

If you want to run your pump the shortest time possible, run your cell at 100% and your pump for just a couple of hours.

If you are interested in constant skimming, run your pump 24/7 and your cell at the lowest possible %.

Or... anything in between will work just fine and the cell does not care one way or the other.. You will just have to experiment to see what works for your pool the best.

I've been running for 9 hours since new, that's what the pool builder set it at and it's been working well so I will probably keep it there and only adjust the run time if it becomes necessary.

Are you sure the pool capacity is 8800 gallon. You mentioned the pool builder set it for 9 hours. If the capacity is what it is you don't need 9 hours to turn over the water a few times. You can probably cut that in half and up the % and just find the sweet spot between pump run time and SWCG %. You keep checking every other day till you hit the fc target between the two.

Turn over is a myth.

Pump run time is first to create/distribute chlorine and second to skim the surface. Beyond that is for pool owner preference.

Was using the wrong terminology. Pretty much meant to say what you've corrected. But once the chlorine is distributed which takes a short time, then the rest is used, I guess as you said for skimming and filtration, to clean up the water which takes time. More for some and less for others....

8800 is whats on the plans from the pool builder so it's the only number I have to go by, I assume it's pretty accurate. I guess I could reduce the run time to 8 hours if need be, we'll see how it works out with the SWG.

Thanks! I'm already starting to see it FC level stabilize, its very cool to see it hang there without having to do anything.

Now if I could only get the pH to do that but I have a spill over spa and 2 blubbers so I'm still adding acid on a regular basis. I wish someone made an automatic acid drip I could use when I'm traveling.
