As for the wall return.. I am fairly confident that answer is yes. Quite a bit of the plumbing/electrical trench has collapsed in covering up some of the plumbing.. We have seen a few builds where there was NOT a loop of standard returns and only the floor zones, or the wall was tied into a zone. Problem with that is when the floor system starts to have problems, you do not have an alternate return path ... and of course the kicking of the jets with your toes. :D

EDIT: yeah the pix seem to indicate a wall return path ... too bad not fully looped around the pool to ensure equal jet action though.

Yeah... Well. If they put in the return on the missing quarter, it would amount to only one jet. But then again it's about fifteen bucks worth of plumbing... So maybe I will complain about it. I can't tell you how tempted to fix it myself and deny doing anything...IMG_20190802_171654543.jpg
 
See, they love my wife. Paramount designed the floor system.

I suppose I need to become "kinder and gentler".

The electrician supposedly only did what is needed for the pre gunite inspection. I am not sure I like the bonding wire at this point... I thought it had to be a grid out to 3' from the pool. Maybe it's okay for this inspection to finish that later.. If not I will be amuzed.
 
As for the debris canister they are going to check but it sounds like it is "a newer design that has it in the skimmer" so on the deck, probably. I might be okay with that because of my narrow side yard, it's kinda tight at the equipment pad...
 
Is the main drain plumbed all the way back to the pad? The "newer design skimmer" is probably a venturi skimmer - which is good - but anything (leaves, debris, etc) that goes into the main drain will wind up in the pump basket. This would happen with the main drain plumbed directly to the pad or it going thru the skimmer first (main drain thru skimmer bypasses the skimmer basket). They can easily add the debris canister at the pad - it goes between the Jandy valve and pump on the suction side. Maybe have your wife sweet talk them into it.

As for the returns, as Jason mentioned, having a continuous loop around the pool wpuld be better. And they could easily add one or two more return for you when they do that. But as it is will be okay too.

The skimmer is definitely a venturi skimmer. I suppose I can add a basket after they are done and gone, too if need be. I am going to add a salt cell next year.

I will certainly ask about the continuous loop but I actually wonder if they didn't do it because of the design of the decking. I would have liked one more return on that side now that I know that is what they are.

You have all been extremely helpful today. I understand all of this much better than I did at 2 PM.

So, the foreman dropped off the drawings, (I haven't looked at them yet), and inspected the work so far today. I checked the county website, and an inspection is scheduled for tomorrow. And it's raining again... I suppose if it passes we actually might get gunite on the 12th...
 
I don't see a debris canister in the pictures you posted. Here is the Paramount page that shows the 2 styles of debris canisters they typically use

The skimmer looks like the normal Paramount venturi skimmer, I don't think it has any special debris canister capability.
On my pool, I have the deck canister in the ground. If you don't see the equipment side version at your equipment pad, then I would check the Paramount design drawings and see if they forgot it. Dumping all the main drain debris from the MDX drain into the pump basket would require frequently pulling the pump cover to clear it.

Yeah, we decided to go with pavers, mainly to be slightly different than all of the concrete deck and travertine (which I personally dislike) decks surrounding us. Yeah we know it will be "hot". I will leave the hose out to spray it off before use! Since it is a brownish color, we decided to go away from the base blue Pebble Sheen everyone seems to use here (well that and the knockoff version that the big evil pool builder from Phoenix uses)... So we are doing Irish Mist Pebble Sheen. The tile is some numbered tile, NCC1701 or something like that. :) I will look it up later and post.
 
I wasn't that far off on the tile, even though I was pushing maximum sarcasm. NCCP 653 is the tile we selected. The picture online doesn't do it justice.

And I will look into the debris canister when I get home tonight. It was about 8:30 PM or so when I arrived last night so I didn't want to do anything. But yes, especially if it is in the drawings I will have them add it.

Edit: Man there isn't much to those drawings. No they didn't include it. Is there any reason I just shouldn't add this $250 item later once they are done and gone? (Because adding it will likely be $600 if I have them do it) I'm planning on doing a SWCG next year anyway.... How bad will it be to be to clean out the pump basket on a Hayward VSP?

You can add it later and save yourself some money. Adding at the pad is probably best as you can swap it out if it were to ever get damaged.... something you can't necessarily do if you have the one installed in the deck. You could install over the 'winter', no need to wait until you get around to installing a SWG. You don't have to use the Paramount one either - there are others available. They all function about the same.
