Videos!! Love them!

I just realized there were more YouTube videos than shown in the RTE. SWEET! And the new one about chemicals, equally sweet.

Good job TFP! I feel like these are super helpful to newbies.

Any way we can get them added to the RTE for posting? Also, a link to more of the articles, or even just Pool School in general would be awesome.

Agree. If a picture is worth a thousand words a video is an encyclopedia.
These are great ice breakers for newbs and packed with quick info designed to encourage more research.
They save so much typing too.

But your point is well taken. With the videos being a new project for TFP, they are not yet fully tied into the various areas of the website.

Now I can just refer neighbors and friends who have pool questions to the youtube videos. Hopefully, the videos will drive them to TFP and maybe I won't have to listen to their pool related complaints.

Sorry, a RTE is "rich text editor". It's this thing that we use to type in and edit text (bold, italic, etc.) for posting. The videos and articles buttons are part of the build of this particular editor.

I love this new forum, and the options to add these videos and links to pool school articles makes them so easy to insert. A real time (and open tab for copying urls) saver!

As Bmore stated I was out of town getting smacked upside the face at Disney. I took the family this week to Florida and am on my way home now. Stopped tonight and hopefully will get home tomorrow........or else.

As for videos, in all honesty, I don’t know yet all the places these will go. My goal at first was to see if TFP could even do these videos, and we can. Next was if users would find them beneficial, they do. Last was can we make one a week, this turned out to be difficult. We launched one video weekly from around June 1st until July 28th and it was difficult. Now that we have a pattern in place I suspect we’ll be able to release them at a good pace when we pick them back up.

My goal is to have videos in most the Pool School articles but where else to put them at, I’m not sure just yet.....but we’ll figure stuff out shortly.

Ohhh, I'll bite!

• Common mistakes while SLAMming might be a good one. Such as not testing/adding chlorine often enough (increases SLAM duration), the difference between clear water and "so much clearer but not actually clear" (doing OCLT too soon), not cleaning ladders/stairs/lights, etc., not brushing often, not lowering pH prior to SLAM/testing pH at high FC, not cleaning the filter/backwashing often, etc. I'm sure there's plenty more to add, but you probably get what I mean and likely know far more common mistakes. If people knew what would hinder a SLAM before they made the mistakes, maybe less would have issues. .

• A testing demonstration & test kit comparison video would be awesome. One thing I think would be helpful to new testers is knowing how to hit/tap the vial so as to get the correct sample amount. The only reason I know how to do this is because my ex works in the pump industry and he'd seen the waste water plant guys do it.

• A test kit vs strips and pool store results would be awesome. Show people exactly how inaccurate they can be, hopefully more people are convinced to get their own kit (sooner).

• Lastly, some general "how tos". How to: add CYA via sock method, level the ground/level pavers, drain/refill (as noted above), store your test and chlorine, do a leak dye drop test, patch holes, pour bleach, add acid, aerate, proper brushing, vacuuming, the methodology of target and minimum, best time of day to test, OCLT to check for algae, bucket test, etc. I'm sure there's more I can't think of right now.
