So after lots of thinking and research I went with th monoprice. 2 x 2.1 system and 4 additional satellites. It was hard to beat the cost knowing that they are probably going to take a beating and at $25 for two satellites it'll be cheap to fix. Now to figure out the amp. Sonos is definitely the front runner, but can it provide enough power for 8 satellites and two subs? I want enough power to be able to annoy my neighbors. We get along fine, it was just the best way to describe how loud I want it. And not all the time, just occasionally when I'm the only one around and don’t want to talk to anybody.

Ok.

I noticed you said you ran yours in parallel. Do you think that helped the system sound better than running the 2 - 2.1s in series? I have the opportunity now to run the wiring prior to the patio being done. I think I could at least run the subs wire now and then figure out exactly where I want the satellites later,
 
The satellites get powered off the sub so knowing the subs placement would be ideal. You might try starting out with just the 4 satellites...I can easily upset my neighbors :ROFLMAO:

With the way the subs work I don't think wiring in series is a good idea or even possible.

You can’t wire in series with these setups.

If u have 2 subs you can put 4 speakers on each sub to have 2 sets in series.

Adding more speakers with these setups don’t make them much louder. The speakers are directional. So if you want the neighbors to hear them point them that way. The number of speakers is based on areas You want to light up with sound.

On the monoprice site, they recommended using two of their unity 450w amps, which provides a little bit more power than 2 of the Sonos amps if I’m reading the specs right.

I didn’t realize that the satellites had to come off the sub. That will make wiring a bit easier. I was planning on doing two separate zones for each end of the pool. So one sub and 4 sats at each end with the subs in a corner and two sats to either side.

I realize they are directional. It was more metaphorical of how much sound I wanted in the pool area.

There’s going to be a 12 foot long wall by 30 inch high wall going down one side of the pool. Would that affect the sound coming from the subs? If not, I can put them behind it, or one towards either end of it.

Lots of pics on my build thread if you want to look and make some recommendations.

The wall will sit 30 inches above the pool and the subs on top of that? Or the subs will be 30 in below the pool?

The wall will be 30” high and the subs in ground behind it or slightly off to side of it. So one sub for deep end and one for shallow end.

The wall will create a pretty big issue for sound reflection. Since sub woofers sound is omni directional it does not really matter except for the subs proximity to the wall and your neighbors. I think you will find that the satellite speakers need to be carefully placed in front of the wall or on top to project sound into the pool area. My current set up does not have a sub due to proximity to neightbors and I use 2 rock speakers and 2 satellite speakers close to the spa to listen to the music. My sound is quite loud and also flows into my neighbors yards as any sound outside cannot be adequately directed.

This is a very true statement. The directional speakers cannot be heard outside of my yard, even at a very high volume but the bass travels. I was actually surprised at how loud it was at my neighbor's house...

You may think you have great taste in music until you only hear nothing but the bassline... I don't think anything sounds good like that??‍♀️

I like to use this to test out my woofers

Bass test

My closest neighbors are about 200 ft away, so not too worried about the bass bothering them much. Probably won’t get the system installed until next year at the rate my build is going.

Brian, I’m sorry to be such a amateur, but I am planning on doing a very similar set up when our pool is completed in the spring. 2 of the mono price 2.1 with an extra pair of speakers, so six satellites, two subwoofers and I’d like to drive them off of the Sonos amp. I am familiar with Sonos, I have two connect amps, one of the new amps, 2 sound bars and four of the Sonos one standalones.
But I don’t totally understand, is how to wire two sets of 2.1 speakers from mono price. Since I don’t speak “speaker“ I’m not totally sure what wiring in parallel means.

Do I need to wire the left and right speaker outputs of the Sonos Amp to one of the subwoofers, and then separately run speaker wires from that subwoofer to the second subwoofer?

Thanks in advance for any (basic) guidance!

So, you wire from the amp to the sub then to the satellites. It’s pretty straightforward. If running 2 subs off of one amp, you’d need to run two sets of wires,one to each sub, and then the satellites off of the subs.

This is what I would like to do. Are the zones independent of each other? Can the volume be turned up on zone A and lower on zone B? Can you play different music on different zones simultaneously?
