So I bought a house with this pool in December and I have been maintaining it ok I think. I have had a couple algae blooms pop up on me if I got busy and forgot to check the pool for a couple days. The filter I have is a Hayward perflex with like 80 individual tubes with filters over each tube. I have had to clean the filter completely after the algae blooms and holy Crud is it a pain in the arse!!! Its easy to take apart but physically hosing off 80+ tubes takes over an hour...I get soaking wet because I am using a hose with high pressure. Does anyone know if I can replace the tube filter potion with another hayward filter? Or am I doing something wrong?!?! After each clean I put the required amount of powder into the skimmer etc... But when I get a fit of algae i have to remove the tubes and physically clean them, the backwash on this filter I dont think works very good. Shoot, I could even be doing that wrong!

Short answer: No.
You can replace the whole filter, but you can't just replace the guts.
It sounds to me like you never really ever eliminated all the algae, or you wouldn't be getting these recurring outbreaks. An otherwise healthy pool is not going to go green just because you slacked on the chlorine for a day or two. Either you let it go a lot longer or the algae never left. Those two scenarios will cause the same clogging problems matter what type of filter.
Have you ever considered installing a salt water chlorine generator? It won't eliminate pool care, but it will add the chlorine for you every day whether you're doing the rest or not.

I figured that was the answer, just didnt know if someone else has come across this situation. The pool turned green about 3 weeks ago, slammed it for a couple days, all my levels looked good and it was crystal clear. Brushed it daily and checked levels daily becuase we had a pool party scheduled for last weekend. Going over everything a couple nights ago I realized what I forgot, the steps. I never took the steps out and cleaned them! So there was still some algae in the little nooks and craneys!! I pulled the steps out wednesday to clean them, left them out while I slam this week because we have more people coming over this weekend to party!
Also I have been finding frogs hanging out in and around the pool, could this be a problem??
