SLAMming for almost 2 weeks

It's been 12 days, and as of yesterday, I can finally see the bottom of the 3.5' deep pool.
I pass the OCLT, and there is .5 of CC
The pool is blue and cloudy and has been for a week.
I don't think I have algae, I think it is a filter issue.
D.E. will arrive today and I will put that in the pump this evening. Do I need to keep the FC at SLAM levels? It feels like I'm tasing $$$$ on bleach with what now appears to be a filter issue.

I killed off my algae rather quickly. However, it took 3 weeks of running my filter 24x7 to get clear. That might be a bit skewed since I ran for the first week with a flawed cartridge.

Make sure you add the DE extremely slowly. A little at a time. I added to quickly and the pressure rose 25% within a few hours - I backwashed etc. realized that I was really just backwashing mostly the DE.

How much FC are you losing each day? Should not be greater than 5 or 6 ppm if no organics are present. Once you get to maintenance levels of FC that will drop to 3-4 ppm per day.

Well, we have some leaves dropping from the darn trees, so the skimmer and leaf net are getting those so that probably isn’t helping my chlorine loss. And it’s been sunny here so that isn’t helping. Can we put our solar cover on during the slam process?

You can put the solar cover on during this stage. Be sure it is off for several hours every other day or so with sun hitting the pool water to eliminate any CC buildup.

I can't say for sure, I haven't been tracking it that close, just testing and adding what pool math says. I notice having to add more during the sunny days. I'm hoping the D.E. that is added tonight will help speed things up.

Have you been adding more than 1 1/2 gallons of 10% bleach each day?

I would say so. It's probably in the 2 gallon/day range at this point. We have a lot of leaves falling into the pool, and it's full sun. It should slow down now with the solar cover on it. That will help with the sun and the leaves.

Is it safe to swim in? I can see bottom of pool. Water isn’t crystal clear. FC is 12. CC is 0.

You can safely swim in a pool as long as the FC is above the minimum and at or below SLAM level based on your CYA. You must also be able to see the bottom of the pool in the deep end of the pool.

I’m guessing you mean for drowning purposes? Because you can’t see the bottom very clearly? Or because of bacteria etc...
