Pool company guy screwed up...

But turn down SWG output to 0%.
I can’t. The picture above only lets me get down to 20%.

Another Q: when pump was on, the water in it was very clear. Now that the system is off the water looks cloudy in the pump. What would cause that? DE washing back to the pump? Afraid I screwed up something earlier when I opened the pump cap and water spilled out. I turned it to rinse briefly in a moment of panic and it got cloudy. I assumed that was resolve by just running the pump for a while but it looks a bit cloudy again now that the system is off.

Thanks, I hit less until all of the LEDs are off. Should be good now.

Any thoughts on the clear water when pump is on and a bit cloudy when off?

Another newbie question: at the bottom of the skimmers are two holes - one is the suction down to the filter. The other is a smaller hole with white crystalline (salt?) in it that’s undissolved. What is that for? What’s the white stuff sitting in it? Should I agitate to get it to dissolve?

Did your PB add liquid CYA or powder? If it was powder that might be what you are seeing. See what you can do to mix it up.

Lets talk chemicals:
Chlorine- You are going to want to keep some liquid chlorine on hand for fast push ups of FC like just before you have a large amount of people over and right after they leave as well. Chlorine needs to be in a shady place that is cool. Your laundry room will be a good place IF you can keep kids away.

Muriatic acid.........this stuff is not fun but very needed for pH control. When you go to use it make sure you have safety glasses on and be ready to dip your hands into the water if you get any on you. It can be stored outside in the heat and sun if needed. It must be a very well ventilated area without any metal as the fumes can cause rust. If you have small kids around you will want lock it up. Many people get a small, plastic storage container that can be locked.

Here is a shopping list to get you all set up for taking care of your pool:
-2 2cup PLASTIC measuring cups with oz printed on the side-one is for the muriatic acid ONLY. The other is for all other chemicals.
-pool brush if you do not already have one
-tooth brush ? for around the small stuff like the skimmer and return every once in a while
-nets-one flat one from the top water stuff and one deep one for stuff on the bottom
-pole for the brush and nets. I have two as I have not been able to find one that does not mess up. One I keep short for when I am brushing the pool while in it and one long one for when I am working on the pool from the deck.
-white plate-I have a plastic one. I use this to help me see the pH test. I hold it up behind the tube. It helps me see colors better.

Test tonight :
FC: 8.5
CC: 1
TC: 9.5

Will wake up early and test again in the morning before the sun is over head!
Good morning @mknauss

Just reran the test approximately 8 hours later.

Results:
FC: 8
CC: 0.5
TC: 8.5

Does this count as a pass of the OCLT? I assume it’s within the realm of error for the test. I used 10ml of water for each test.

If yes, should I rerun pH and other tests before adding the muriatic acid (need to go pick it up later at the store) or can I rely on yesterday full test panel and add based on that?

I will also turn SWG back on to 100% if you agree that I’ve now passed (makes 3ppm per day).

Thanks. Going to Home Depot today and will get these items. What size measuring cups do you have (I.e., what is the max on the gradient?). Also going to buy safety goggles. Do you use gloves as well? Will also look for a locking plastic box.

How do you add the muriatic acid? Slowly in front of a return jet in deep end?

I have a telescoping pole, a whale brush, and a flat net. I’ll get a deep net for bottom soon.

Toothbrush is easy ;) we brush our teeth in this house.

This is the one I have. Plastic so it won't mar the surface or rust.

I use plastic 2 cup measuring cups. I buy them from the Dollar store.

I don't wear gloves when I work with the m.a. as I can/do just rinse my hands and arms off right in the pool.

I float the cup in the water right over the return and let it flow out with the return.

You might want to pick up a foam knee mat in the garden department since you will have to kneel on the coping to do some of this work. I have an above ground pool so just stand by the side and work from there.
