We have a hole in the ground! New O/B in Queen Creek, AZ

So I have omen final challenge related to the fill valve. As with most pools, mine uses your typical toilet fill valve in a “bucket” mounted on the side of the pool. I have the valve extended to its full length and the float set as high as I can, but it won’t go high enough to activate at the level I want. Maybe they installed the “bucket” too low. Either way, I need a way to get the level set higher. Does anybody know if they make valves with a skinny float that will allow the level to be set higher or are there spacers available that I can install to raise the whole valve assembly up an inch or so? Maybe there’s another solution I’m not thinking of.

Aren't the threads 1/2" NPT? If so, 1/2 threaded male to 1/2" threaded female riser should do the trick. Just make sure the water level stays below the upper limits of the autofill vessel and doesn't rise into the deck sleeve.

Haha, for sure. I’ve been slowly learning how to minimize trips to the hardware store. Generally, something easy takes 3 trips. I feel confident I can accomplish this in a single trip. Fingers crossed!

I’m building an airplane in one of my garages and can’t get a lot of what I need at the hardware store. It’s pretty agonizing having to wait for things to get delivered only to realize I still need more or different stuff I didn’t think of.

Yeah - I hear ya on the 3 trips. And for you, no HD or Lowes close.

Airplane - now you have my attention. Aviation is my real passion! By chance, are you at Pegasus? - my daughter lives just down the street from there.

I wish I was at Pegasus. Im a mile or two NE of there. Houses with a hangar are a bit out of my price range right now, so I have to settle for an extra garage for the airplane. I’ve finished the empennage and hope to order the wing kit in a few months. Paying for the pool put things on hold for a bit!

We drive down Empire to get to her place. I'm always wanting to swing by there and have a look.

What aircraft are you building?

Cool - a Van's RV-9. I'm a little wheel on the front kind of guy. But only for the visibility advantage when taxiing.

Back on topic: I've seen those short risers in sched 40 PVC. One or two of them should get you the extension you need.

I don't want to derail this thread too much, but here are just a couple of airplane parts pics. I'm looking forward to getting back to that project soon. Don't mind the mess in that room. We were still slowly moving into the house and trying to find a place for everything. The blue is just a protective plastic coating they put on the aluminum.

And another couple of pool pics for good measure. ScreenLogic has been pretty easy to use. I set it all up long before the pool was finished, so there were no surprises when it came time to start things up. I used a PC to get things set up how I wanted and now I just use the app on my phone to control everything. I am probably going to add one or two more valve actuators to the mix so I can control the spa spillway remotely. It's not a big deal, but I'd like to be able to click a button and have it direct all the water to the spa returns to get the waterfall effect.

You shouldn't need another actuator to automate the spillway

That looks awesome (airplane parts)! Pools looks great too. I think you can setup a spillway circuit to do just what you want with your current actuators (suction from pool and return to spa). Set pump speed for that circuit to give the affect you desire. May even be possible to have another circuit with a different pump speed for a different spill affect.

EDIT: I need to learn to type faster - Brian already beat me to it.

Oh Rob - @Arizonarob - we need to add a stop here on our roadtrip. QC isn't too far out of the way - especially if we include a stop at the Olive Mill for lunch. :whoot:

I’ll have to look at my setup and see how I’d go about automating the spillway the way things are right now. I’ll definitely have to adjust pump speed for it and just need to look at the actuators and see which one needs to be where. As of now, there is one actuator controlling suction (pool or spa) and one controlling whether water goes to the spa jets or to another valve that selects flow between the pool and spa returns.

If I move the actuator from the jets vs returns location, the jets will have to be manually controlled and I can automate flow to either the pool or spa returns. What is the typical setup for the actuators?
