Buying my Intex today!! OMG!!

I see the prices go up almost daily on Amazon/Walmart/eBay and decided today I’m finally ordering my pool! We measured our yard to see which size pool we wanted (thinking 18’ round) but I still have not decided on one yet! I see Intex now has the new XTR model pools which look just like the “regular” Ultra Frame pools except they’re SUPPOSED to be rust-resistant.

Obviously since these just came out and have no reviews to back up this claim, I’m scared to order one! I’m also afraid to order the non-XTR version because I’ve seen people complain about rusting (sometimes as soon as 1-2 months!!). Soooo I guess I don’t really have any questions, I’m just looking for some advice and guidance haha. I know it’s just a temporary pool, but it’s my first pool and it’s important to me!

Which Intex pool do you have (or have had) and fid you have any issues? Actually it can also be a Coleman, Bestway, Summer Waves, etc. I wanna hear them all before I order! Ahhh I’m excited but nervous! Thanks y’all so much! I love this forum!!

@kb109 , you know my story, lol, but we've had intex easyset (blow up ring) and 2 frame summerwaves/summerescapes. We've had no issues (we did store the blowup over winter) but we midwestern "over winter" our frame pools (no room to break them down & store them).
I would honestly say from personal experience, keeping the water balanced (using Poolmath or the app) will have the greatest impact on longevity, aside from the actual product manufacturing quality. I love the look of the XTR's, but they don't have small enough size for us

I bought the intex 12 foot last year and it had rust on the uprights before we even used it for the first time. I put it up early (excited) and it sat for about 3 weeks before we could use it. I left it up all winter and uncovered it last week, and it looks good. The small rusting is still there but doesn't look like it's much worse than last summer. I'm not bothered by it bc I bought this as a temporary pool. I'm hoping to buy a new steel or resin walled pool next Feb when they go on sale to put up next summer. We've enjoyed our intex. I did change out the filter and pump to the intex pump/swg combo and a sand filter. I'm glad I did bc my pool stayed crystal clear (also using this site to keep water balanced and a good test kit). It was easy to maintain as well.

I'll say that if I was new to buying an intex this year, I'd probably chance the newest version even though the reviews are lacking. If they are advertising this as rust resistant, then they know some of their other pools have an issue with rust so hopefully they've addressed that with this new pool. And since rust is the only negative I have about the pool, I'd try the newer one.

Scout123, that is why i bit the bullet and went with the XTR, not to mention it was not that much more than the other Intex pools.

Congrats! Now ........ just make sure that purchase is followed-up with a TF-100 test kit - w/ magetic speedstir if you can. The test kit will help you keep that new water clear & clean.

You can find the best deal on the thru-wall skimmer, no need to buy the most expensive, they are all the same

We had our 21’ ultra frame up 5 years straight and only had really bad rust at the ground level.
They are a fairly tough pool and lots of fun for the money.

@kimcats We are going to try to do it (or as much possible) ourselves. That way if we do hire someone, at least a huge chunk of the job will be done so the bill won’t be outrageous. Here’s the slope in my backyard if you haven’t seen my other thread. I want to put the pool right in front of the deck and add on to it. Already had the Call Before You Dig people come out and the utility lines shouldn’t be an issue.

@giltyler Great to know!! I wanted the new XTR model but didn’t know if it was worth the extra cost. The reviews on this pool were more positive than negative but I decided to take the risk!

I love your yard and house! That pool will be purrfect there!

Good plan on doing most of the work yourself. You might be able to do it all! Do you know about water levels? That seems to be key in getting the area level.

Now tell me about those triangle looking buildings to the side of your house. Those look neat!

@kimkats Thank you so much!! The property next door is an A-Frame home and the one in the back is the garage/“mother-in-law suite” lol! Our neighbors are characters! Gotta love it.

I’m not sure about water levels? Can you elaborate a little bit please? Our backyard is a bit swampy when you get near the very back by the fence. We don’t know how far down we have to dig yet to get the ground level. I know to start at the lowest point but I need to do some serious research. I’ve seen so many different ways people level their ground lol

We had an 18' x 48" for 5 years, the ultraframe, with sand pump and salt water thing. Got a ton of enjoyment out of it. Frame is rusty and have to replace. Seems like the recent reviews on intex frames isn't so great so I am hesitant to buy again but may be joining you shortly in purchase of the same.

We have put ours in the driveway and it was never perfectly level but it held solid.

Here is a video of a water level. They work great for leveling a pool. I used one I built for our install.
