Small Pool Build - Brisbane, Australia [emoji1037]

Just stopping by to see what was up? What is going on! I went back and back. I have a leak. How did it happen? That elbow give out? I agree not too bad of a mess. Nice and contained. Soon I will be all fixed up but if u are anytime by like me u are jumping out of ur skin. I worry about everything.

Good of luck getting it fixed! Pool water looks pretty darn good though! Do u use a pool store service? Lol

kim. . . If u r reading this. I’m kidding.

Hi Jim and thanks. Yes it’s been a very intense time this past month since it occurred to me that we have a leak. There were a lot of possible resolutions thrown around, some that were heartbreakingly invasive and others that were completely non invasive and quick. No one knew for sure what the fix would involve until it was physically located. Yes, from my photos the plumber picked up that elbow as the problem. During the fix though it was hit with the jackhammer at the very last moments so they can’t be 100% sure until all other lines are pressure tested on Monday. The repair pressure tested perfectly the following day and will be also tested on Monday again.

Since that line was bunged two or so weeks ago by leak detection I have lost no water at all. Prior to this I was loosing maybe 1cm a week. An amount that could easily be written off as evaporation or splash out. I am quietly confident as to me things seem as they should be now. I have tried to keep things in perspective as it is just a pool and there will be a resolution one way or another. Plenty of people world wide are dealing with far worse.

I need to catch up on your thread but like to so when I have a good chunk of time as you post such detailed informative updates. I hope all has been going well and thanks for checking in.

Btw - I’m waiting for someone to ask me which pool store I use [emoji23] Haven’t really had the chance to entertain much yet. I have a friend who has helped look after pools for 40+ years. He was enthusiastically telling me all about how I should look after it. I just nodded politely and thanked him. About a week later he saw my water and said it was beautiful. I think he thinks it’s thanks to his protocol!

I think that pretty much sums it up in regards to the issue now being resolved...

Sounds like the pressure test will be given a pass mark on Monday and you will be good to go.

Small Pool Build - Brisbane, Australia ??

A bit of an update. So before the second, whole pool, pressure test happened, the water in the subfloor seemed to be a little worse than it was. Very stressful time as it appeared that the leak had not being fixed. Cool, calm and collected, as per usual, my pb told me to mark the skimmer box at the water level. I did. The next morning it hadn’t budged. 24 hours later, it hasn’t budged. 48 hours later, it hadn’t budged. Not even 1mm. Cover was on, pump running as per usual. Hmm. Ok let’s go ahead with the pressure testing. Everything passed with flying colours.

So.... where was this water coming from? The water in the subfloor that had initially led me to finding this leak. Well, it appears that it is coming from our neighbour - either his backwash or his pool! The water in the subfloor I found initially had sent me on a chase to find any other sign of a leak. I found the side of the pool damp at the step up to the gate. As it turns out, this was the only sign of our leak. The night I discovered the leak and I turned all equipment off, it dried up very quickly. The subfloor didn’t. It must have been a very small leak as the leak detection guy had trouble finding it initially. Hubby found ground water when he dug out trees before the dig at the neighbours end of where the pool went. He thought it was odd as we are well above the water table. Our neighbour’s pool equipment is directly on the other side of the fence, quite a bit higher. It appears it is then taking a path directly from there down to our subfloor. So the subfloor water was absolutely nothing to do with our leak, ever. Honestly, I thought I was going to loose my mind over this, trying to figure out what on earth was going on. Anyway, I am 100% confident that our pool is no longer leaking.

Repair hole was filled today. Tiler had a big man tanty as he wasn’t told it was a coping tile that needed the left over section removing. He said 50/50 whether he’d damage the waterline tiles regardless of how careful he was. He managed it though! Pretty happy with that. Had a little step put in near the gate and did some sanding and oiling of the little retaining wall around the patio. Starting to finally feel like things are coming together.

It’s anazing how water finds a path. I M very very paranoid when it comes to water. I still go up in my attic when it rains after 12 years cause of a flashing issue when we first moved in.

Glad u r on the mend!

Is the neighbor one you can talk to?

LOL on the tiler's "big man tanty".........glad he was able to fix it without any extra damage!

I love the color of that stain! So rich looking! Good job!

Kim:kim:

Possibly. It could just be his backwash location. He does seem to backwash a fair bit. Might get hubby to chat to him.

Yes, definitely happy the bond beam wasn’t damaged or the waterline tiles.

Oil is just a water based natural/clear. It’s the same as the painters used on the posts and that was used on the step. Different timbers so different results, which I don’t mind.

Thanks Jim [emoji4] Yes, it amazes me too the path that water will take. I’ve been paranoid about leaks since we had a one in our ensuite toilet 2 years ago. That was a fun few months of having the entire ensuite ripped out. Thank goodness for insurance. A $4 part has caused about $16K worth of repairs [emoji15] I don’t know where you find your stamina for your projects! I am so done with the pool and surrounds.

Where can you discharge your backwash water to in QLD..?

Here in SA it must go into our sewer and not storm water.

Get hubby to gently remind your neighbour that he would be liable for any damage caused by him discharging water which then finds its way onto your property.

We can discharge into storm water as long it’s FC isn’t over 10ppm. I discharge ours to storm water. I have a feeling he’s just letting his loose in his backyard from his equipment pad. It would explain the water drying up then getting worse again. There is another neighbour behind him who is even higher and I suppose there is a chance it is from his pool too but the lay of the land suggests to me that it’s our direct neighbour.

Problem is that hubby is quite friendly with him. I’m probably best t speak to him myself when I see him next.

A whole other season [emoji31] It will be worth it but I can understand you’re feeling pretty burnt out after all the physical and emotional energy your put into your build so far.

Ha! In the US, your insurance company would probably cancel your policy after you made a claim that big. Makes you wonder what insurance is for if they cancel you for using it!

Really? Wow. The strange thing is visible damage was nothing. Little bits of grout were popping out of the tiles and I noticed a one inch strip of damp on the other side of the wall on the carpet , which is in our bedroom. Within an hour of calling they had industrial blower heaters set up in the subfloor pointing upwards and in our bedroom. The assessor decided as the base floor was particle board that everything needed to come up and the particle board replaced. He said pretty much nothing would survive reinstallation. The vanity and tap wear were the only things that they were going to be put back in, but we paid to replace those. The entire ensuite was gutted and replaced. Mind you the company assigned took their time... seems to be a common thread for me and tradies [emoji23]

Oh my goodness Riley00dog! I had NO idea what you have been dealing with recently! I have purposely not read anything on this forum for months. I am so sorry! But glad you’ve gotten to the bottom of it - no pun intended! Love your pool. Hope you can enjoy it soon.

Thanks Amy. When I read that you hadn’t been around as you didn’t want to complain, I was thinking that’s all I’ve done recently! Can’t rush those 2 pavers that need to go in or that bit of drainage [emoji849] Oh well, overall I am very happy with the pool and the pbs response to the leak. It’s quite a ride isn’t it?!
