SWG Run Time Calculator

What a GREAT tool. Thanks! Took a lot of the guesswork out of tuning my SWG. I saw someone post that their FC was climbing. I saw the same thing. I assumed that when I was dumping jugs, the sun was eating more of my FC when it was high. IOW, when my CYA was 60, I would target 10-12 on hot, sunny days, and I was losing 4-5 PPM per day, probably in part because my levels were high. Now, with the constant flow from my SWG, my loss is closer to 3.5 ppm. Does that make sense?
 
Since I installed my SWG my FC has been constantly increasing from 7 to 10.5 so far. SWG was set at 50% but i turned it down until I start loosing FC then will slowly adjust SWG % up...hope I'm doing it right???
 
FC demand can vary based on a lot of conditions, sunshine amount, temperature and pool use. It can take a while for you to learn your pool's needs. I usually have to adjust mine based on the season, spring and fall is one setting and mid summer is another setting. If I have a huge FC demand like a party, I will just manually dose using liquid chlorine so I don't have to fool with the % or run time. Tracking your FC over time will help you figure out the rhythm. It is best to overshoot your FC vs undershoot.

Well said. This year, I got myself in a bind due to all of the rain in my area. Based on my loss of CYA, I had a replacement of about 30% of water. That also means that my CYA was dropping and water was being added that was not chlorinated. All of this increased the demand of FC but I did on compensate enough and after about 1 week of not testing, my FC dropped to 1 and it was not so sparkly anymore. A 2 day SLAM fixed it. I also had to add more CYA as I like to run it around 80.

I'd be happy to take a stab at an Android App. Wouldn't be too difficult to build considering it's mostly mathematical calculations which could easily be pulled from the Excel Spreadsheet. I'm an amateur/newbie at both pools and Android programming as our pool build is about to start next week and I've just finished taking an Android Basics programming course through Google's Nanodegree program.

One of the worse things you can do after a course like that is... nothing. Gotta use skills to keep them so I'd love to see what I can do. Of course, the formula is yours MGMOORE7 so I would only do this with your blessing. Send me a message if you're interested and want to discuss further. This would be great practice for me with building an Android app.

Unfortunately, I don't have any iPhone programming skills so I wouldn't be able to do anything there.
 
I made some changes/updates to the SWG Runtime Calculator:

Beta 1.302/22/2018Conditional formating to show good, ok, and bad values for percent table, adjustable in Setup tab
Add sliders for Calculate Runtime and Calculate SWG % input cells
Use ceiling function to round the SWG% in the Calculate SWG %
Bold Column in SWG % table based on the FC demand ppm cell
Beta 1.403/19/2018Update instructions
Add description of colored ranges
Renamed "Min Runtime" to "Max Acceptable" and Max Runtime to Max Possible (24)
Added setting for SWG % increments, only effects "Calculate SWG %" in bottom left

Just checked it out and it worked fine with no glitches. The helpful links section only has 1 working link (chlorine/cya chart and water balance for sag are not set as links). Thanks for the update!!

Not sure how they lost the hyperlinks and still are blue and underlined.... I'll fix that though, thanks.

Thanks man. Just wanna point out that mjmoore7 is the one that originally created this, I just made some modifications that I thought dressed it up better and added a little more functionality to it. Mostly all the formulas and hard work comes from him though.
