New Pool + Cabana + Putting Green - Lucas, TX

if this was my back yard. i would have a zone under the waterfall. so at night you can play it lower and not light up the rest of the yard. i would also have a zone for by the covered porch out back of the house to light it up with the putting green. i would than have a larger pool zone to cover pool and firepit area. this way you can light up that area during the day but then later at night you can control zones as needed based on where people are. when you want everything loud and coverage everywhere you throw the zones into a party mode and then the 1 source is on all zones. but this would be through a distributed audio setup like nuvo or russound or sonos.

You can set it either way in the Bose app. You can make it mono or stereo. The SA-5 Amos are part of the SoundTouch system so they are just like Sonos. They have internet streaming and link up with Pandora, iHeart, SiriusXM, and a couple others I don't use. XM gets the most use for me.

I should also say the only reason I have Bose is because my brother in law works for them so I got it all half price. Otherwise I agree with Jim that it's too expensive and you can get as good or better speakers for less.

ok cool good to know. like i said don't know a thing about bose.

ya with how they are positioned now they need to be set in stereo mode vs mono and there still will be gaps prob, but you can get away with it. with scope of your backyard and the cost you have into it. i wouldn't do anything else but zone. i can tell you my wife would not want it all as one zone. cause i could see her hanging out under the waterfall later at night and i would be up under the porch. i would want 1 thing on and she would another and if she didn't want something on then she would be yelling at me cause i want music on and she could hear it where she is. sound only travels so far.

Why no to sonos? Because of the cost?
i am planning my audio system and planned on using a sonos type set up and was curious what your thoughts

I don't like how Sonos forces you to play all content through their proprietary app. I prefer to use native apps (especially Spotify where we have a family premium account). That way regardless of where I am listening to music (car, boat, house, yard, running, etc) it's always the same familiar Spotify interface (which I quite like).

I agree with jim on the zones, we have multiple zones for inside the house and out and it's wonderful. We can play a movie inside and music out or vise versa or do party mode, my backyard is no where as big as yours but you will be happy with multiple zones. I do however understand where your coming from with sonos, there are other things you can use so you can use whatever source you want. We have 2 different setups at my house and the Yamaha interface is user friendly and you can control from your phone. I'll take a picture of mine and post it later on today
Also for the price you pay for sonos you can get more equipment for your money by using something else and have greater flexibility if your familiar with audio. People like sonos cause it's plug and play but you also pay for that convenience

nuvo is for you! you use their app for control of unit and then when you want to use spotify or pandora it bounces you to their app.

3 zones. you don't need any keypads. amp and all streaming built into it but you use their app to control volume and zones and then when u want app control you bounce over to spotify app.

multizone audio is awesome. my nuvo unit is 16 zones. i'm using 8 inside and 2 outside and have 4 left for my pool house and around pool, which will be 2 only. pool house zone will be 4 speakers. its' only a 30x12 foot area also. pool will be a 8 speaker array from traid. my pack porch is 25x17 and i have 4 speakers there also. you have to light up the area to get nice coverage. speakers are cheap. i use all proficient speakers for inceiling and if mounted or array it's always traid. and my whole backyard can fit in ur yard twice probably.

i would seriously find a big custom installer in your area and get his ideas. it's free. you can then go off from there. i bet they break it up into zones.

my audio server is a 4 source single box from nuvo. i get 4 individual streams of anything i can imagine in 1 box. all of this is controlled by 1 simple app from nuvo, but also tied into my own programmed home automation when i want to do some other geeky stuff. but the whole setup is 2 boxes for all the zones and amps and 1 box for all audio sources. and 1 amp to control everything.

How many languages do you speak, Jim? The language you've been speaking lately (for example the one above) is quite foreign to me. This is what I hear: :blah: :blah: :blah:

I know all the audio/video people are loving it!! Have fun!

Okay it's update time. We actually disappeared on vacation for a week. While we were gone they completed the cabana (minus hanging the ceiling fan, twinkle lights, or tv).

Here are a few pics...

WOWER!!!! That looks awesome!!! Just what you wanted.

Now lets mess around with it! Get a thermometer to put under there. Check the temp with the rain off THEN check it again after the rain has been on for a few mins. Of course check the temp in the sun beside there to get a good idea how much cooler it is.

Who has a suggestion on low voltage lighting for my yard? The landscaper arrives on Tuesday and I'm feeling pressure to get the wires laid out before he plants the sod.

Im tempted just to grab a transformer and a bunch of lights and wire from Home Depot (Hampton Bay). Any reason not to do that??

Get wires down and buy the lights from Volt - a bit more expensive, but lifetime warranty real brass fixtures. The good forever kind of stuff :)

12/2 low voltage wire works great. You can run zonal systems with lights now, we have 16 hubs around our front and back yard. When we finish there will be about 5 fixtures per hub :). It's gonna look amazing, and last forever.

Funny story about our new umbrella (actually nobody was laughing)... we left it out over night, but lowered and tied it. Little bit of wind that night, but nothing major. Didn't matter, it still blew over and broke. So it lasted less than 12 hours. Bummer, we really liked it. I'm going to try and repair it. Anyway, that's why this is the only pic you'll see of it...

You did it! You got your putting greens in!!! Will you chip it up and over from one to the other?

Poor umbrella :( I bet you can put a piece of PVC inside it and gorilla tape or such on it.

Love the steppers coming from the side of the house!

How is your water doing? Is it staying clear?

Yes, Kim. The idea is that the small side is a chipping area. You can pitch shots from there to the green. We should have the little flags on Monday.

Glad you noticed the stone path... I like at almost as much as the green!!

Water looks great. I test every week. PB finally added the salt this past week so the water feels like silk!!

If you look closely you'll see the Bose outdoor speakers surrounding the pool. They are powered by a Bose amplifier mounted behind the TV in the cabana.

We still need to get a new fire pit and chairs. Also need to install landscape lights (ran the wires before landscaping, as suggested)

Ok now I'm totally jealous...cabana look great and the water flowing will make for a super nice retreat. So why am I jealous? That putting green and chipping area thats why...just kidding it is a great touch and you have inspired me to find more money to spend :)

If I may ask what did the golf stuff run you in cost? Ballpark is fine because it will give me something to shoot for...much appreciated! You can send private message if you don't care to post in the open...

I have no issue sharing! The putting surface is $14/sq ft. I have 300 sq ft. The fringe and chipping area are $8/ sq ft. I have 190 sq ft of that. So my set up is just shy of $6,000. You can do the math on your own design.

I'm not gonna lie... it was very tempting to do more turf up the left side of the pool deck, working its way back to the cabana. I may end up doing it in the future. Grass in Texas sucks.

If you decide to do tackle this project, I recommend you call Michael Grant at Synthetic GreenScapes. I was really picky about who I went with and what turf I selected. Michael was amazing and even arranged demos at several of their past projects before committing. Yes, I showed up to complete strangers' homes with my putter and three Pro V1's. I wanted a green that rolled fast and true, not bouncy like so many turf greens I've tried. What I have installed is amazing. Let me know if you want to come try it.

The other nice thing thing about Synthetic GreenScapes was their crew... these guys are punctual, meticulous, friendly, and CLEAN! By far the best crew we've had at the house these past several months.
