Am I crazy? Thinking about complete replumbing of spa - questions

Let me start by saying that I'm an engineer... since I was a kid I loved to take things apart so I could see how they work. I've posted about the old spa that was at this house when we purchased last year (Older Spa Maintenance)

Since then, I've had it apart twice now. Last time I replaced all of the cluster jets... but had 2 still slightly leaking and one with little pressure. The leakers were because I couldn't get the back of the housing tight enough to the tub & the low pressure is due to a kink in the flexible tubing.

Well, I just drained it to repair those and keep having this crazy idea that I should just tear out all of the plumbing and start over. The pump and heater are less than one year old, so I'm good there

Shouldn't be that hard - right? (famous last words)

I have several questions...

  1. Is this a good idea or am I just plain crazy?
  2. If I go through with it, is there a brand/type of jets that everyone likes the most? (I would like to update them all anyway.)
  3. What about the bubbler ports on the bottom? The blower burnt up due to water intrusion and we didn't like it when we used it anyway. Should I just plug them or is there some type of little jet to put in?

There are more questions in my mind, but I'll stop there for now.

If the two are having problems I would redo them for sure. As for redoing all of them.........not so sure about that. I would take lots of pics just in case you need to put it back how it was before LOL

The problem with it is that the tubing going from the manifold to the couple bad jets will have to be replaced. It is glued (didn't know that tubing could be glued) to the jet housing and to the manifold. So I don't know how to fix it without replacing. Guess I could put a splice in the line, but that will restrict water flow still
 
OK - so I've finally decided... complete replumb. I'm going to run PVC from the pump and create a loop around the perimeter of the tub then use waterway manifolds and tubing to run lines to each jet.

Question... for the tubing... do I just use PVC tubing that I can buy at the hardware or do I need something special?

2nd question... for the PVC loop... should I use 2" or 1.5"
