1 inch chlorine tabs

This forum generally does not recommend the use of solid Chlorine (pucks, tablets, etc) for regular use because they add multiple chemicals at the same time.

For normal, day to day chlorination the use of regular, unscented, non-splashless, bleach is recommended.

Read through the link provided in the previous post. As you have a small pool, if an issue arises you simply dump the water and start over.

Take care.

Thank you! That sounds even better than tabs. Do I add directly to the filter? I just want to make sure everything is safe for my kids.

Pool School - How to Chlorinate Your Pool

There is much more than the above in Pool School.

You pour the bleach/chlorine in the pool in front of the return water from your pump in the pool. Wait about 15 minutes and it is safe to swim.

The addition of chlorine is a daily item -- it is consumed by the sun each day. You need to have stabilizer (CYA) in the water to moderate the FC loss.

Take care.

For sanitizing pool water, the Trouble Free Pool water maintenance plan strongly favors bleach/liquid chlorine over chlorinating tablets. There are situations where tablets are OK for brief usage, but many pool owners get into trouble using tablets indiscriminately for too long of a time -- this leads to algae blooms. Continual use of tablets causes accumulation of cyanuric acid (CYA) in your pool water. Some amount of CYA is desirable, but too much CYA sharply reduces the effectiveness of the chlorine in your pool water (details in the articles linked below).

There are some articles on this site that are most helpful for getting acquainted with Trouble Free Pool water maintenance. Jblizzle already linked to the Seasonal/Temporary Pools article, which is especially germane to small Intex pools and similar models. Here's some more reading for getting the basics:
