Georgia Pool Build.... FIRED PB need advice please!!!

Re: Georgia Pool Build.... No Longer O/B :)

I found out the deco tile that I picked is really expensive. It would cost $435 to just have it every 6ft. Is that too much space in between deco tiles?

I can't decide if its worth it...especially since I might be adding a $500 built in basketball hoop.

Re: Georgia Pool Build.... No Longer O/B :)

I wouldn't prioritize the deco tile above a good basketball hoop! (My opinion - our hoop is priceless for the kids.) Seems like 3' is a common spacing for wider spaced deco tiles. Hey that's only double in price! Easy for me to say. 6' would probably look fine too I just didn't see any examples of that wide spacing in quick search.

Re: Georgia Pool Build.... No Longer O/B :)

I would say the 6 feet is too much spacing and is not worth it. I would say that every 2-3ft would make sense. We did some deco tiles and are very happy but it was not nearly that price. We were fortunately with our builder that he did not up charge much for them.

For our pool, we actually changed the spacing based on where they were and how they would be seen. Pictures on the last page of the my PB link in the sig show that the back wall has less space, the step area as less but the wall that is not seen from the house has less.

One more thing, personally, I would not want a permanent hoop. It seems like something that would deteriorate faster than the pool and may be more costly to upkeep later. Depends on placement too. I just like the idea of something that is movable.

Re: Georgia Pool Build.... No Longer O/B :)

That price seems like a lot to me, for something that will have little impact on the function or even looks, really, of the pool. But then again, I don't know how much tile normally costs, or how close you are to maxing out your budget.

Do they need to be a certain kind of tile? Can you look around for alternatives that are similar but less pricy?

Re: Georgia Pool Build.... No Longer O/B :)

I just found this build that actually has the same size perimeter as my pool....he did 6' spacing.

I originally asked for 3', but I just can't justify almost $900 for accent tiles. I'm sure I'll spend the saved money somewhere else haha. We've gone back and forth on the basketball hoop decision. My 7 year old actually did mention liking the idea of moving the hoop around. We're deciding between these two.....

I think by permanent she is referring to one like this...removable but with built-in sleeves.

That's nice!!!!!

Re: Georgia Pool Build.... No Longer O/B :)

This one won't move with water in it but can be moved. It's another price tier and isn't the most attractive, but I can tell you from personal experience, it's worth every penny. The backboard is a breakaway style which can be reset. Teens haven't busted it in three years.

Re: Georgia Pool Build.... No Longer O/B :)

Sheree, it's amazing how different that tile looks in daylight vs fluorescent store lighting! Very, very pretty! As to the deco tile placement, I think every 6 ft would look fine. IMOP, sometimes they are placed too often, taking away from the specialness of the tile.
I'm looking at basketball nets, too, but I doubt I'll have it soon enough to have them drill for the posts, so it will need to be an after build add on, for me. I'll be curious to see how you end up doing yours.

Re: Georgia Pool Build.... No Longer O/B :)

I like the rectangle backboard better than the half moon. So I would either go with the $132 one which I think looks pretty good or the SR smith (and I believe they make a version that can be installed after the deck was already done).

My builder ensured me that with the size of my pool it would look great....so I went for it. Looks like I'll be picking up another weekend of call. :p

I actually think you're right that this spacing is perfect!

I agree about the rectangle backboard. I reeeally like the ones that you and bmoreswim suggested. I would just have to dig a little deeper into my pockets.

Sheree- you sound like me....an upgrade...well, I guess I can pick up some more shifts....I'll sleep eventually ;)

Yes lol!! I worked 24 days straight once while saving for the pool (luckily my call shifts are typically just 9-1).

Re: Georgia Pool Build.... No Longer O/B :)

I have an SR Smith basketball hoop (made for a salt pool) and love it. It looks great.

We just put in the same thing. It's awesome and can be removed but not moved around. It's getting more action than our slide.

Re: Georgia Pool Build.... No Longer O/B :)

We were really hesitant about dropping the $$$ on the S.R. Smith hoop but it ended up being worth every penny. It gets used every time someone is in the pool. And it's built like a tank.
