AutoPilot SWG

AutoPilot has various model Salt Water Chlorine Generators including:

Pool Pilot® Digital

Pool Pilot® Soft Touch

The AutoPilot system uses a patented Bypass Manifold to limit flow through the cell to less then 20 GPM.

The manifold also holds the Tri-Sensor that detects water flow, measures water temperature and measures water salinity.

The AutoPilot brand is part of Team Horner that also manufacturers AquaCal Heat Pumps.

PPC1 - 28,000 gallons
PPC2 - 32,000 gallons
PPC3 - 50,000 gallons
PPC4 - 60,000 gallons

Reset Ampere-hour Counter After Cell Replacement

Press MENU, press  or  until “Maintenance menu” is displayed, then press SELECT.
Press  or  until “Replace Cell” is displayed, then press and hold SELECT for 13 seconds. “Amp-hours = zero” will be momentarily displayed.
Press  or  until “End menu mode” is displayed then press SELECT.^[1]

Incorrect Salt Readings

Before you replace the Tri-Sensor due to incorrect salt readings try pulling the sensor connector and cleaning both unit side and sensor side of the connector with contact cleaner.^[2]

Adjusting Chlorine Output

Chlorine output on the AutoPilot SWG is adjusted by changing the Power Level.

Tri-Sensor Leaking

The Tri-Sensor has an o-ring that can leak. Pull out the Tri-Sensor and check the O-ring. Replace it if necessary and lubricate the o-ring with silicone lubricant.

Pool pilot Dig-220 Display shows, 'set time of day" does not respond to button pushes

Check the battery on the board and see if the voltage is low. If low replace the battery.^[3]

Autopilot Pool Pilot Digital stuck in Demo Mode

Enable Demo: (This is a special display mode, which does not impact salt readings or temperature readings. Note that chlorine will not be regenerated even though valid readings for volts and amps will show on the “Test Pool Pilot” menu.)^[4]

1. Press MENU; press up arrow or down arrow until “Installer Menu” is displayed; then press SELECT for 13 seconds.

2. To disable demo mode, press up arrow or down arrow until “Disable demo” is displayed, then press SELECT. Unit will reset and operate in normal mode.

3. To enable demo mode, press up arrow or down arrow until “Enable demo” is displayed, then press SELECT.

 *** DEMO *** will flash, then DIG-220 will reset into demo mode.

Go to Exit Menu Mode and Press SELECT to exit menu mode.

Autopilot History

Diamond Shamrock Corp. created the Lectranator in 1976.^[5] A patent was filed for on 11-11-1976 and granted on 7-11-1978 - DOCUMENT ID: US 4100052 A - APPLICATION NO: 05/740870. The patent description was:

Disclosed is an electrolytic cell for the generation of low cost halogen biocidally active agent from an aqueous solution having a low halogen salt content for use in the treatment of sewage or other liquid effluents, especially those of fresh water swimming pools or fresh water cooling towers.

The electrolytic cell is used in line with pumps generally associated with the distribution of waters for swimming pools or cooling towers.

The present invention generally relates to an electrolytic cell for the generation of low cost halogen biocidally active agent for the treatment of a sewage or other liquid effluents especially those waters of a fresh water swimming pool or cooling towers. More particularly, the present disclosure relates to an improved electrolytic cell having a bipolar configuration which is used in line with the pumps generally associated with the distribution of waters in swimming pools or cooling towers or other liquid effluents for the generation of chlorine from affluent containing low levels of chloride.

This employs an enclosure connected in line with the liquid distribution system of the facility containing a series of parallel planar plates to be utilized as electrodes arranged such that the effluent flows through the parallel planar matrix of plates and is treated thereby with the chlorine being electrolytically produced from within the confines of the electrolytic cell.

The Lectranator has been in production since 1978 (16 years before the AquaRite).

Lectranator Corp was sold to Olin and then to Team Horner in May 1992 and this became the AutoPilot SWG.
