We are in the process of getting quotes and one of the builders uses Zodiac equipment. He says it is the same or part of Jandy.
Is this company recommended?

Find out what specific model equipment he is proposing. Some equipment si better then others within each brand.
Zodiac stuff in the quote:
VS 2.7hp variable pump
CL-460 filter
LED lights
Polaris RT28P (I have been thinking about an electric robot, though)
iQ904P controller
1.5 hp spa jet pump
Jxi400 propane heater
RS automation system
Purelink salt system

That is all Jandy equipment. I don't know why he is calling it Zodiac.
Consider getting the Aqualink RS with a Load Center instead of the iQ904P controller. Also make sure that 4 relays are sufficent for all of your future needs as it is expensive to expand the system later. You may want to get an RS6 system with 6 relays to give you some flexibility.
