#yolo_az New Build!

23, take what both Jim and Marty are telling you as some of the best advice you’ll receive. I know you’re “rushed” into the pool, but nothing worse then looking back and wishing you did it differently.

And as an AZ resident with a standard 3-5-4 pool, go deeper. If I was building a pool from scratch, it would be 4-6-4 with a tanning ledge and benches. As others have said, with shallow water, your pool WILL get hot. Nothing worse then swimming in 95 degree water.

Totally listening. Love this site. We did go deeper; 4-5-6 ish. They gave us a bit more on the dig then listed.

I am just confused on what Easytouch we should opt for. We are not doing SWG at this time. PB states I need the Pool/Spa version to control the water features separately.

23,

Most pool builders shy away from the Lite version EasyTouch like the plague... :p

Just so that I am clear... A pool without a Spa can use either a "Pool only" EasyTouch or a "Pool and Spa" EasyTouch, it makes no difference.

If you will not a have a Spa, the idea that you must have a Pool and Spa unit, just so that you can control a water feature makes no sense to me and leads me to believe that your pool builder does not understand how Pentair automation systems work.

Thanks,

Jim R.

23,

Please tell us again what water features you want to control and what do you mean "separately"?

I assume you just want to be able to turn a water feature on or off. If so, any EasyTouch can do that.. you just have to buy an actuator.

I would buy this one.. 520538 https://sunplay.com/collections/pentair-easytouch-control-systems/products/pentair-easy-touch-control-system-520538 This is a real EasyTouch and comes with two actuators. This will make you and the pool builder happy... :p

I think the pool builder just wants an EasyTouch that comes with the actuators.. If you buy a "Pool only" Easytouch you have to buy a separate actuator. If you buy a "Pool and Spa" Easytouch they come with two actuators.

With this unit I still need to add on the wireless kit correct? Is there anything else I need to add on to be able to control the pool functions via an app besides well the app. This part is still confusing me.

23,

Your link to the P/N 5221404, shows all you need to have a fully functioning ScreenLogic control system.

The kit basically lets you talk to the EasyTouch via your PC, Phone, or Tablet. I suggest that you initially use your PC as it is much easier to see the whole picture at once. Once all the programing is done, then you can use your phone to turn things on and off..

They are telling me they pour this coming Thursday!

23.

Looking good!!

Just to follow up... If you had the ET lite, there would not be a place for your circuit breakers, so you would have had to have another subpanel on the wall next to the ET. Having a real ET makes the installation so much cleaner..

Thanks,

Jim R.

That’s looking real good. You’re gonna love the fact that they plumbed in a spicket on the return side of your pump. It comes in real handy when you need to drain water from your pool after we get the monsoon downpours!!

~Advice~
If your easy touch is mounted to a east/west/or south facing wall, it’s going to take a beating from the sun. So consider building a vented enclosure for it.

Also, not sure the direction you’re going in with the equipment pad, but that too is going to take a hammering from the sun. Those blue handled valves (not a fan of those at all) will be the first to give you problems.
If that pad will be walled in with block, consider a simple pvc framed top wrapped in solar screen to protect your equipment and plumbing from UV damage. If nothing is planned, then a simple plastic or wood shed to go over/around it, will keep it all in good shape.
Use the search at the top of the page, and you’ll find some great threads discussing that topic.

I’ve been thinking about the equipment and the AZ Sun beating it up. It will have the classic 2 walls with blocks. I’ve been thinking about a Sun Shade to cover it. Ill start to research! Thanks.

23,

Yes... Basically your PC talks with the protocol adapter through your house network. Then the protocol adapter talks through the inside antenna to the outside antenna and then into the EasyTouch.

Thanks,

Jim R.
