Yet another Texas pool build!

Today Paver guys should be out to fix all the paver stuff. It is also raining. My girlfriend was mad because they cancelled yesterday. The paver guy said they would work rain or shine because I am scheduled for plaster on Monday (unless the rain slips it back which I am guessing it will). We'll see if the guys show up today.

Umm, I just quickly looked at and read some of your thread... I'm so sorry for your delays and disappointments, I know how it feels, I had my share with my PB. Hopefully you can forget all the stress that took to get your pool build and just enjoy it beautiful property.

Thanks I thought I saw somewhere you had problems with your PB. Not sure what it was but I hope it got resolved or you were able to get some kind of resolution. At least you have that beautiful pool in your yard that is finished :)

Bags of glass beads (enough to do 2 pools) are maybe $200-300. I know as I just purchased ours for our Stonescapes install. Considering the issues you've had, I'm shocked this guy tried to get out of that considering the costs are so minimal.

Either they have some extreme mark up or the pebble tec stuff is way more expensive. From what I have seen that is the cost of the shells. The beads seem to have a installed cost of about 1500 for my pool from what I can guess. I am figuring there is a healthy mark up on it but the biggest cost is probably the labor. Either way they told me I could have it so I am making them stick to it. I have it in writing now so we'll see what happens.

Update...

They are slowly plugging along on my pool. There are two major things right now in the way of completion. 1 is the paver work that needs to be completed. The paver contractor isn't showing up when he says he can. He needs to fix some coping pavers that never should have been installed before they can install the plaster. 2 is the hand rail on my far side wall. Supposedly it is custom because it is curved. They have a quote for the job but it has a 3 week estimate. There is another quote coming in and they hope they can do it faster. The 3 weeks won't hold up plaster but it will hold up final inspection. The other minor stuff should all hopefully be completed today or tomorrow. We'll see....

So another story not really PB related. My last bill from the CoA for utilities was INSANE. I am not sure why it was so high. I was watering quite a bit I know. My total bill for Electric/Water/Sewer/Trash was about 1k. Then this month I got all new sod and was watering every day. I thought I would have another insane bill but I was so excited to open it up yesterday and it was $580. That is around our normal summer bill price. I am THRILLED! I am just wondering how my last one got so high? My thought is my sprinklers had some bad heads and they were leaking way more water than I thought. I fixed all of them after the sod was put in and I think that made a big difference. Also I have a feeling that the guys who did my pavers must have been letting the hose run. I know they were using it to compact sand for the deck and I am guessing they just left it running. That is the only reason I can think of my bill being so insane. My water bill was $400 of the 1k bill and this last month it dropped to $250 (which is still crazy high) but I was watering the new sod every day which is 5 zones out of my 10.

Ok my girlfriend just called and said that they were going to try to plaster by the end of the week. He told me last week I was scheduled for Monday so I don't know now how I am being scheduled at this point. I thought I was already scheduled. I basically told him to wait now...

I know I am crazy...

Basically Saturday is Halloween and I don't know if I'll be home when it is done filling assuming it gets acid washed on Friday. Sunday I have church and then I have to be to the airport at 4 for my international flight. Then I get back in a week and I have surgery that following Wednesday. I just told him to schedule my plaster for November 16th. Hopefully by that time I'll be walking in a boot and I can brush the pool some myself and also test the water level myself. Then all I have to worry about is the maintenance of the pool when I am gone for Christmas.

This really doesn't change my final inspection date at all as far as I can tell. The way they are talking is they are having problems finding someone who can build my hand rail in the next 3 weeks because it is curved and so everyone is saying it will take 3 or 4 weeks. So I still will have them in my life until after the surgery anyway.

Not crazy at all, just being proactive! It's much better for you to get through all the things you have coming up in the near future and then be able to focus and not stress (or at least stress less, hopefully) about maintenance.

Crazy question,

Since your season is shot, have you thought about plaster in the early spring? That way you don't have to worry about it over the winter and you can hold your last payment. Don't have to worry about the cost of chemicals or time maintaining it. That way your warranty starts several months later. I have had to replace every piece of Jandy equipment I have under warranty except the filter. That included all of my control boards! Those extra months might save you a lot of money in the future.

Of course I would probably plaster now just to get rid of dealing with all this!

Wow that is crazy about your Jandy equipment...

Is that normal?

Honestly if I trusted them to be able to do the plaster in the spring I would probably do this. My problem is I don't honestly know where they will be at when that time comes. How many pools they will have and how timely they would be. I could potentially risk having them stall and miss another complete season.

The only reason I don't mind delaying this time is because I know they are still waiting on hand railing which by my estimation will be after my delayed plaster anyway.

Sod is expensive and uses lots of water. There are many low water alternatives out there. I am planting UC Verde Buffalograss in my new yard. In Texas you could plant Prestige Buffalograss. They use 30-40 percent less water and require a lot less mowing and maintenance. You can also save 50-60 percent water if you install in line drip below the lawn. Prestige was developed from native Buffalograss at the university of Nebraska.
