Yet another Texas pool build!

That looks great!!!

Yeah I am more than happy with how it turned out. It is better than I thought! I wasn't sure how they would fill in the dirt around the boulders on the right side of the stairs. I was thinking they would have to shape pavers around them but if you look closely they cemented in river rock around them. I really like how they turned out and even though I hate little rocks (because my kids constantly throw them) I actually love these. I might do this with the flower bed later if I can't keep any plants alive in it. Put a couple large boulders in there and then fill in the gaps with river rock and cement away. I didn't even think when people were saying to put rocks in there that they could be permanent. Whenever they would say rocks I would go into my "Never in a million years will I have small rocks around my pool" mode.

Umm- I just read through your thread and first of all, your pool and pavers are gorgeous!! Like everyone else, I can't wait to see it all plastered and finished. I just love all the curves and elevations. It's a beauty!
Secondly, your build terrifies me to begin ours. I am so not good with confrontation and it will be me dealing with everything in our build. Ours will be less fancy though so maybe less chance of screw ups, I hope.

I feel terrible for you and your wife that this has taken almost 1/2 the year. Hopefully not much longer so your babies can get some swimming in! You all have waited long enough!

Thanks for the compliments! It really has been a humongous hassle. It is also very discouraging to see pools that are just as nice getting finished now that started way after mine. Oh well hopefully we'll be done soon and we can put this entire thing behind us!

I am the guy who has to be confrontational. Unfortunately I don't think one pool has been built without having to have some kind of discussion with the builder. Just remain calm and firm and tell them what you expect. Also be reasonable if it can't be done and figure out a way past it. I hope that your build goes really smooth! We built a house too and this has been more stressful than that but it also had its issues too and I was probably worked up about the same about that as I am with the pool. I think the only difference is our pool's design was so off kilter that there is a lot more 'winging' it with the design and that is something I have to trust them on. I also had to learn to wait until it gets finished before I got worked up on how something looked.

I will say except for the random person every few years on here that had a pool builder bail on their job and leaving them high and dry I would say mine has been one of the more difficult builds. I highly doubt though that you'll have a sales guy that is wanted in 2 states etc... We'll help you along! I know that this forum really helped me during the super difficult times. Thankfully now I am pretty numb to the entire thing so it is going much smoother now (plus the PB has good contractors working on stuff and those guys know I don't tolerate much at this point).

Hey at least the snail moves!!!!! AND does good work! Sorry I have find something good in everything.

Kim

Yep! I think part of me is now thinking my PB doesn't order stuff until stuff is done because honestly why couldn't they have gotten my controller when I filled the change order. For a PB that type of thing shouldn't be hard to get quickly. I used to work for a company that would order equipment when they got another sale and had the cash flow. It sure seems like that is how they are behaving to me. I know they aren't hurting for money they are selling about 10 to 20 pools a month and they are all mostly more expensive than mine.

Hey, Umm. So what stands between you and your plaster? Is this the week?

My sarcastic side wants to say "incompetence".

I have quite a few little things that have to be done. I am not sure where plaster will fall with the rest of this stuff...
1. Electric - Was supposed to be today.
2. Tile Repair - Was supposed to be today.
3. Guard Rail - dunno when
4. Replace Fence
5. Sod - I guess this is going in today... I am not sure why they would do this before the rest is done since it can be torn up pretty easy.

I liked your pavers before - now that they are finished - GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks I am really thrilled with how they came out.

Haha -- after reading your thread, I tend to agree: it seems like everything on your job has been done TWICE.

We sent the electrical contractor AWAY today, because he has different quality-of-build plans than we have. Until we are on the same page, why waste his and our time?

haha I think TWICE would be optimistic. I know that this will be the third visit for the tile company and the wall took 3 attempts. So I am satisfied with twice or less haha.

What was your electrician trying to do?

ugh.

Our electrician wants to run wire through PVC through the attic (where its too hot for PVC), then mount the secondary panel on a piece of plywood nailed to a 2x4 hammered in the ground instead of wall mounting it. The 1st thing is not to code and the second is just shoddy workmanship. Seriously, doing it right would cost only tens of extra dollars extra. So Greg is going to mount a **** panel to the brick wall himself, as well as the "upgraded" conduit on the exterior of the house -- materials are about $50. We'll let the county inspector address the PVC in the attic. The upgraded tubing thru the attic would cost about $20 more than PVC.

Its annoying, isn't it?

Yep. If it was my house they would come out and tell me how they were doing it. I would say "that won't work for reason X, Y, and Z". Then they would come out and do it anyway because my PB didn't tell the sub. Then I would have to wait for 2 months for them to come out again and do it all over.

Wow, suffice it to say, I feel your pain. We sent the electricians away before they began (...to screw up). This statement seems unfair to the actual electrical workers, who may have done it our way in the first place.

Well, I have to say my electrical work was done very well. I have no qualms with that. But I sure did have a lot of doubts about many things. But most of it turned out fine. I sure hope everyone ends up with a pool that satisfies them. Pool building is really crazy! The purchaser spends a ton of money. The contractors show up. If no one says anything, sometimes shoddy work just gets passed off as okay. I knew nothing about what was supposed to be "right." Without TFP, I probably would have gone crazy wondering and worrying. But all ended well. I love my pool.

You need to do what you gotta do. You have to live with the install for YEARS. If they want to cut corners to save $50 and 1 hour of time that is something you'll have to live with way longer so don't let down on it.

haha You remind me of my mother-in-law. If I need to return something to a store I take her with me. If they don't cooperate she has a way of getting her money back.

----

Well we got most of our sod yesterday. I forgot to mention something before when Helen said that everything is done on our pool twice. The other special thing that happens on our pool is materials are not ordered until they are ready for them so they have to wait extra time to get anything done. Say it is time for coping. Said coping takes 2 weeks to get in stock. You would think they would order 2 weeks before it would be time for coping so they could get coping started when it makes sense. No when it is time to start coping then that is when they order the materials. BUT in addition not only do they order it late and we have to wait but they also never order enough of anything. So when a few coping pieces are cracked they don't have enough to put in coping that is not cracked so then when the coping is all done they have to order more and that takes another 2 weeks. Then when it comes in they then they try to schedule the crew to come back which takes another week to get them scheduled. We didn't have enough coping, tile, deck pavers, wall block, etc...

Now guess what they didn't have enough of? SOD! So now I guess when that takes another week or two to get in I have to water twice as long because I have to water the sod that is down now and then water the other sod when it is laid! I am getting pretty annoyed at the fact they can never order the right amount of materials the first time.

Yesterday the electric and tile was supposed to be done but they never showed up. I am ready for this to be over and yes they make some progress but I am tired of getting work done one day a week again.

Sorry I just needed to vent a bit! I was hoping that eventually they would get moving and it would go somewhat smooth. So much for that. In my mind I swear I am like a week away from being done but in reality I probably won't be done until December.

Ummmmmmmm's pool sure is a picture of how a pool should NOT be done!!! He has done everything right BUT the workers have been bad or slow or bad and slow. Lets not even talk about fired sells people!

Vent away all you need to! We can and will back you up and grrrrrrrrrr at them for you!

Kim

I guess I needed to vent because things are going better. The sod got done just now and the tile guys are here now! I am home because I am sick but I am happy something is getting done. The back yard looks so nice with grass. I forgot what not living with dirt everywhere. Plus we have a fence so we don't need to walk the dog on a leash anymore.

Here is some grass photos!

So sorry to hear you are sick :( Hope you are getting better and fast!

I see they built that back area up quite a bit! I bet it will not wash out like that! Nice job. I like the stepping stones!

I see black/dark stuff in the little area by the walkway. Is that dirt?
