Yet another Texas pool build!

I have to agree that it is not finished. I like the idea of just running the pavers up to the pool. A planter would just add mess to your pool. Best just to finish it out.

TWO crews at ONE time????????????????? You MUST be smiling just right!

Thanks for the explanation. Makes sense now. I either didn't realize or had forgotten (most likely scenario!) about the soldier course. Yeah, I'd probably fill it in with pavers if you have enough,or perhaps rocks (too heavy to throw!) if not enough pavers.

Post some pics if you get the chance of all the crew work today!

I am super excited! I can't believe I am this close! I still have no clue when we will finish but I hope in a couple weeks.

The end is near...

So they ended up using the pavers under my deck. It looks fine actually but they did trim it out with the wall caps so I am happy with it now. I do have a small gap there now so I don't have a clue what I'll put in there. Who knows. Rocks are out of the question though. I don't think I could get big enough that fit in there AND weigh enough so the kids won't throw them. I had pea gravel under my deck before and I was very clear with the PB that I never want to see it again. I told them I want it all gone.

Another thing they did that I wasn't expecting is they built yet another wall next to my landing for the stairs I wasn't expecting. I kinda like how it looks and it should help with drainage.

That wall by the steps is Purrfect for there! Nice touch!

The gap-----------BIG kid proof bolder, fill it in with concrete, sweet talk one of the paver guys into putting some of the pretty deck pavers there, several pretty pots (large ones).

You will need something there so it does not collect and hold water. I also worry about the water causing erosion problems there.

At least you are seeing what GOOD work looks like! NICE!

I think I might try to put some plants there that can tolerate salt. Maybe they'll stay alive from all the splash out. Who knows haha.

I am super thrilled with the way it is turning out. It really looks interesting with all the paver work. I had never imagined what it would look like but I truly love it.

That gap where the gas can sits - is it the right height to face the outside of the wall with matching stone and then put a built-in sitting bench out of stone?

Good idea. I think it is about 12 to 18" tall. The issue is it slopes down. There is a drop of 6" or so as you walk to the other deck. That is why there is an extra step on the far side.

Here's my 2 cents worth....

The gap in the first picture of post #464 really needs to have some plants there to add some green, color, and to soften up your fabulous deck.

You can Google plants that tolerate salt spray for lots of suggestions. The one I liked is the flower carpet rose, but there are many others. You may not need to worry about splash out in that area. If not, I love my new drift roses. So far since July 24th, they've been in constant bloom. I always feel like something blooming most of the year is a no brainer.

Now for watering the bed... I would have the irrigation (or whoever will be doing your sprinklers) connect a drip line from the closest sprinkler pvc. It's a small black tube which would be easily hidden by tacking or gluing it along the step bottom.

My landscapers added 5 different spots with drip lines for my deck. It was cheap and easy for them to do. I love it! I should have done that years ago. So now, my potted plants get the water they need without relying on me to water them.

It doesn't matter that yours aren't in pots. A drip line would work for your issue of accessibility.

Thanks Suz for the recommendation!! I might be able to do that kind of thing myself too. I'll ask though. (My irrigation repair is in my contract so I am sure they'll wince when I ask for more stuff)

One of these days I'm going to add more drip lines myself. I love them! So if I feel like I can do it, I'm sure you can. But it took my guys maybe 5 minutes to do one with 3 drip connections. They didn't bat an eye to add another one to a different part of the deck. It won't hurt to ask.

You mentioned earlier that you already have lots of plants on and around your property. To me, that's even more reason to bring some greenery in closer to the pool.

If you decide to fill it in the gap with large stones or accent rocks, don't cement them in. Keep your options open in case you change your mind later down the road.

Thanks Suz! I hope you feel better soon.

I agree with putting plants in that gap. Will definitely add to your already fabulous pool! Drip lines? Duh!! Why didn't I think of that! Suz is so smart!!

Marla better start saving! This forum has cost me a bunch of money haha!

Marla when you do your build you will have ALL of the good ideas and shouldas written down and ready to do!

Kim

haha I wish I would have found this website WAY before starting my pool. I have learned so much just during construction it is silly.

Well my deck is done!!!! They grouted and put in the polymeric sand yesterday and finished up the loose ends. I didn't get a photo because I had to help my daughter with a bunch of homework and tonight it will be dark when I get home. I'll try to get photos on Thursday. I am super excited. Now the next step is landscaping but it is the crew I had all the problems with trying to build the wall but my girlfriend assures me they are good at landscaping. I'll be on him every day they don't show or only work a couple hours for sure. I am ready to be done.

ummmmmm I would also tell your girlfriend that you (we at TFP also LOL) will give them ONE chance. The FIRST time them mess up, leave early, arrive late, look at your funny they are GONE!

I can't wait to see the pics!

They are here working but I am finding stuff I am not happy with. I'll talk with my girlfriend today. I am working from home so I can talk to him. The sales manager was out today and is super happy with the way it turned out.

Here are some more photos. I absolutely love how my pool deck turned out. There is a lot of clean up to do so the PB said they would acid wash it now to clean it up.
