Pool Size

Surface
Vinyl
Chlorine
Liquid Chlorine
Test have been stable for a week at

Ph 7.3
Alkalinity 170
Hardness: 160
CYA: 20
Total Chlorine: 10ppm (last 3 days for slam) never below 3ppm otherwise same for FC.. I don't have the Taylor fas-dpd yet so this is based in the color reading 6 way hth kit, not test strips.. (I know what is encouraged I just don't have one yet)

We have a 24ft above ground vinyl pool wotha sand filter system. This is our 4th year and we have had a successful pool with crystal clear until this year.. something is off.. we did add the wrong algecide about 2 weeks ago and drained a 1/3 of the water to manage foam and water started to clear after refil and slamming the pool. We don't usually use algecide especially for opening but we opened later this year compared to previous years and it was pretty brown very algifilled water. Won't make that mistake again.

Our water is hard so we usually add a thing or 2 over the first couple weeks of iron myte and we usually don't need more than a bottle of clarifier.. any advice? We can see down to the 3rd step but have vacuumed and brushed alot.. something is off thus year!

Welcome to TFP! Your situation is very common. Owners are cruising along for a season or two (or more) until one year - BAM! They they are confused because this never happened before. So you're not along. We see this all the time. Yes, proper water testing is about the only thing that will help you right now aside from emptying the pool and starting over. Hopefully the products you've added won't require more water exchanges, or possibly changing the filter sand because of the clarifier added. I hope that went directly to waste.

For now, I would hold on any specific recommendations until you can post some accurate test numbers with either a TF-100/Pro-Series test kit or Taylor K-2006C. That's going to be critical to coaching you through this issue. By the way, are you on a well? It doesn't say so in your signature.

Until you obtain one of those test kits, I would simply add 1/2-one gallon of liquid chlorine to the water each day. That's all. No more pool store potions, algaecides, etc. They do absolutely nothing to kill algae.

Thank you! Would you recommend one kit over another? I have read the pool test kit recommendation page you shared but would like a personal opinion since the price differences and they seem to be the same thing but different number of tests per category? So one comes with more chlorine tests and the other comes with more CY and Alkalinity etc. ? But they are the same testing types correct?

IMO, the TF-100 (or TF-Pro) are great kits and a better value. Fast shipping and fresh reagents. I've used those kits for 11 years now.

Thank you! I realized I didn't answer your question earlier, yes we do have well water so I wasn't sure if that was the tinted yellow which is why we added the iron myte

Is this the correct test kit? I know it sounds silly but I have an Amazon gift card and the tf-100 isn't available on amazon so I wanted to make sure this had what I needed or in a different light.. what is it missing compared to the ones you listed if this isn't right? The C from the 2006C isn't there...
