looking to buy this week. a big headscratcher is the pump. The salesman really doesn't want me to mix a Pentair pump with the Hayward Aquarite and then is equally disapproving of a 3hp Pentair Intelliflo 3 (my first pump choice but he says is too big since i have no water features etc) and instead says Pentair Whisperflo VST 2.6 THP VS. Also, i haven't even thought about the liner so any input there. i do have a dog that may like to use the sun ledge but not necessary. Am i missing anything?

Major Components:
  • 18' x 40' x 30' L-Shape Swimming Pool Kit with 48" Steel Wall $6,331.94
  • Pentair GloBrite LED Lights (Do i want 3 or 4 lights?) $1500
  • Hayward AquaRite S3 Salt System 40,000 Gallon $2,000.00
  • Hayward ProSeries Top Mount Sand Filter (plan on glass substrate) $940
  • Pump Choices:
    • 1. Pentair Whisperflo VST 2.6 THP VS $1650
    • 2. Pentair Intelliflo3 3HP $2119.99
    • 3. Hayward Tristar VS 950 Pool Pump 2.7THP $1975

Presumably insignificant items not worth thinking about:

  • Cantilever Track/Flat Coping $367.84
  • 2' Radius Corner - Cantilever Flat Track - White $149.95
  • Clip Loc Capstone Foam Form 8' Section (Individual Piece) $665.00
  • 48" High x 18' Wide x 2' Radius Full Width Steel Step with 6' Sunledge ESC-10418 $6,897.99
  • Royal's Choice 3 Step Ladder with White Hip Tread 20" w/Escutcheons $279.99
  • Royal's Choice 4 Bend Handrail w/Escutcheons (brand varies) $159.99
  • Wide Mouth Dual Skimmer System for Steel Wall Pools $480.00
  • CMP Compact Pool Defender Anode and Water Bond $80.94
  • Findlay Augusta 27 Mil Liner sq. ft.: 936 $2,751.84
    • * vinyl-over-steps $695.00
    • * step_texture: yes $150.00

I do not see any automation, so I would say get the Intelliflo3 with the Relay board and an IntelliChlor SWCG. Then you will be able to control the SWCG, the lights, and the pump using the Pentair app.

Be ware of the Globrites. There is supposed to be a new generation out there. Be sure you get them. Hopefully they do not fail at the 3 year mark like the old ones.

what lights would you recommend? i want to do lights but $1k per light is kind of insane to swallow.

LED lights are tough right now. None have shown to have any longevity. Unless you are stuck on them, better to get a regular niche and put a LED bulb in it. That way you are just changing the bulb each time.

i'm not stuck on anything. I really dont even care if they're colored or anything can you recommend a niche?

Pentair Amerlite is a very standard niche. Then look at Florida Sunseeker for LED light bulbs.

I LOVE the L shaped pools! The best of all worlds! Well done on that!

Hayward ProSeries Top Mount Sand Filter (plan on glass substrate)
I would not bother with the glass substrate. Most people who shell out the bucks for it end up going back to sand within a year or so. It just does not clean as well over time.

Here is a link to a thread we put together the help with different liner chooses:

How does the pentair swcg compare to the s3? I seemed to come to the conclusion the s3 was the best. Is automation really that important?

I am buying a 18*30*40 L shaped pool. I plan to get the Pentair Intelliflo3 3HP. I had been set on the s3 chlorine generator as it seemed to be considered the best but I'm wondering if I should stay in the pentair ecosystem? Thoughts?

Those swcg’s are essentially equivalent.

You can do without the automation’ I mentioned. You will need to add a timer for the swcg. The power must be removed from the swcg when the pump is not running.

From what i seemed to find in my research, it seemed to be recommended to run the pump at a low speed all the time
