Hi!

We just moved to a new house and this is our first pool.

We just had the the pool opened, but the switch does not turn the pump on. The pool tech took an extension cord and was able to turn the pump on by stripping and connecting the wires directly to the pump's motor but when we use the switch it does not come on.

So we know the pump itself works and that it could be a simple electrical issue.
now with a new house, we really are not looking forward to anymore bills, so we would love to do this ourselves.

has anyone encountered such a things and was it an easy fix or something that required a professional and would any electrician be able to help or do we need to find one who specializes in pool pumps and such.

You should check and make sure you are getting power to the switch, a $15-20 tester from a hardware store can assist. If there is power at the switch but it doesn't turn on the pump then possibly a bad switch. If there is not power to the switch, it could be a breaker off, or wiring issue.

Good luck

Welcome to TFP!

This is something any electrician could help with. As Sseaman said it is either a bad switch, breaker is off, a bad breaker or bad wiring somewhere in between.
