I installed a SWG earlier this year, so this will be my first year winterizing with the SWG in place.

In the past, I’ve followed the regimen of dumping a bunch of shock in the pool just before closing. With the SWG, should I just set the SWG to 100% for a while and then close?

High chlorine before closing won’t hurt but also is not foolproof. Best to wait until the water is under 60 degrees before closing.

I never follow that advice as ive got too many leaves coming down in early October.

I usually have some algae when I open up but a one-two day slam takes care of it

Neither option is controlled.

We use precision here. Specifically, SLAM level which is 40% of your CYA level.

It will take the SWG quite some time to overproduce up to 28 FC, even in the late fall. About 4 gallons of 10% chlorone would do it in a matter of minutes.
