hi all, my water chemistry are all in range, how do you winterize without using pools store winterizing kit? im getting loop loc aqua extreme safety cover. tia.

Which item in a "winterizing kit" do you believe you need? Have you read the article in PoolSchool about how to close a pool?
As far as winterizing with an SWG, the device won't work in very cold water, so many folks remove the cell and store indoors over winter. There are some brands with "dummy cells" that can be placed in the device during winter. Adding liquid chlorine lasts a long time in cold, winter weather. Other wise just bring the pool up to SLAM level value a couple days before closing and and cover the pool.

what worries me is that SLAM will require up to 24 FC level, wouldn't that accelerate my vinyl liner fading?
It will not do anything to the liner if you mix it in with the brush as the chlorine is heavier the the water and will settle to the floor and have the pump runningfor 30 minutes. Also as long as you know your CYA then the slam level for it will not degrade the liner.
sounds good. my CYA is 40-45. the chart only goes from 60 & up. what should my FC be?

Use the Non SWCG chart. The SWCG chart is only for normal operations when you are using the SWCG to chlorinate your pool on a daily basis.

That is one piece of the puzzle. A TF100 for a complete kit is the best value.

So is that a good test kit? I had a complete test kit so many moons ago I don’t remember. I just replenish as needed. I use drops I can test for fc, ph, alkalinity, cya, salt.
